Mattie let out a loud laugh as the mud him him, her adrenaline going as he got up. She tried to run backwards as he came at her, but she couldn't move fast enough and with a loud, laughing shriek she fell back into the mud.
"Hey!" she said, trying to wrestle herself out his arms. She felt like she was a kid again, playing in the swamps without anyone to tell her that she was getting too old for it.
She reached for another handful of mud and pushed it against the top of his head, and then ran her mud-coated hands down his arms. Mattie pulled herself out of his grip and sprinted through the water a few paces away. Her shirt was heavy from the mud coating it had gotten when she flew into the water, so she tossed it off without a thought.
