DJ walked to the appointed place for their meeting and sat down on a bench nearby. He and Riley had agreed to meet on a public and neutral place, and DJ wanted to be as far away from drinks as possible right now, so Hyde Park was the first place that came to mind. He glanced at his watch and then looked around to see if he spotted the redhead he was still engaged to.
The redhead he was still engaged to was running a little late. She'd caught herself trying to make sure she looked good for him and then made herself stop. By the time she managed to make it to Hyde Park, DJ had already been there for five minutes, but as far as Riley knew, he could have been there for a lot longer. It certainly didn't take very long for her to spot him on a bench either. She was pretty sure she could find that body anywhere.
She wasn't the only one who could find the other anywhere. He caught a glimpse of that gorgeous red hair and his head turned toward her. Damn she was hot. Riley was one of those girls how could the most unappealing clothes and she'd still look hot. When she approached him, he stood up, though he wasn't sure how they were supposed to greet: a hug? a kiss? a wave? He decided to just smile at her and let her decide.
Smiling back, the Puddlemere chaser tucked her hair behind her ear and held out her hand. In it was the engagment ring he'd bought the night before. "It's beautiful... and it probably cost a lot of money. I can't accept it because it wasn't done right." Love potions and sudden engagements, it wasn't the right way... and while Riley had never professed to doing it right all the time, this was something she wanted to do the right way. We probably have a lot to talk about."
"It looks good on you, though," he said as he looked down at her hand. It was true, the ring was perfect for her. It made him feel bad about returning it, actually, despite all that had cost -- but he was a famous Quidditch player, he could afford it. "Yeah, we do. You wanna sit down?"
She nodded and settled onto the bench, the ring still in the palm of her hand. "So what do we start with first?" It was a logical question, they had more than one thing to cover, she figured.
DJ ran a hand through his hair and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "Well... I guess we should call out the engagement?" It seemed the first thing they should do, although it was obvious.
She nodded and closed her fist around the ring. "Yeah, that sounds like the responsible thing," she agreed. "Maybe put out a statement to the press that it was the love potion?"
She thought about it for a moment and shook her head. "Or, well no. That seems a little over the top, doesn't it? We could just quietly do it and it would probably be better."
DJ agreed with her second suggestion. "Do it quietly is the best, I think. If we go to the press they'll think we want to make a huge deal about it and that's not the case. I can return the ring tomorrow and no one will have to know."
"Everyone will know. Jewelers can't keep their mouths shut for anything," she muttered. "So what now? We return the ring and then what?"
"Then we..." he paused for a moment, thinking about that what to do after that. "We continue with our lives? I don't know Riley. I really have no idea."
Leaning back on the bench, Riley nodded. "Alright. Fair enough. Not like we really wanted this to happen anyway, right?"
"Maybe not the engagement," he said.
She glanced at him and rose an eyebrow. "What's that mean?"
"I wanted to see you again, Riley. Spent time with you," he said. "Not in a relationship way," he quickly added. He didn't do relationships right now, not after what just happened. "But in a more personal and intimate way, if you know what I mean," he said with a smirk.
Riley smirked, raising an eyebrow. "You mean a bedmate kind of way. All the benefits of a sexual relationship and none of the hassles of a regular relationship?" she questioned with a chuckle.
DJ grinned, "You read my mind, Red."
"Well then, I guess we have our answer don't we?" she replied, smirking. Before she could open her mouth to speak again though, a clap of thunder sounded and rain was unleashed on top of both of them.
"We do," he agreed with a grin. Although his expression changed when rain started to pour on them. He should've brought an umbrella. "Let's get out of the park and find some cover," he said as he stood up, hugging his jacket to his body so the water wouldn't get on his shirt.
Riley laughed and stood up immediately, heading for the covered part of the park with a laugh. She dropped down on a tabletop and shook her head, running a hand through her wet hair and then trying to wring it out.
DJ followed her, shaking his head to get rid of the water as soon as they were under cover. He wiped his face with his arm and grinned at her. "Should've known something like that would happen," he laughed.
"Weatherman did say rain today. I just figured he was wrong," she chuckled.
"Weathermen are usually wrong," he said with a small chuckle, sitting down next to her. "Except this time."
"Not today, apparently. Wouldn't you know it?" She looked over at him and reached out to brush his hair back with her fingers, smirking in amusement.
DJ brushed the back of his hand against her cheek, wiping off some drops of water. "What do you want to do now?"
"I have no clue. Lunch?" She wanted food. But not a drink. "Maybe sans drinks this time?"
He laughed. "Definitely without drinks."
"I'll follow your lead this time," she chuckled, running a hand through her hair again.
