It had taken him nine days to finally get to the point where he felt like he could talk about it. Not to mention to work up the nerve to drag up something so painful for Rin again. Still, ever since he'd woken up to those memories, there were words that Shiro needed to say to him. Now more than ever before he never had the chance to. Especially after he'd watched Rin break down to pieces in front of him. Break down for good reason, it pained Shiro more than he could have ever guessed to know his own son had witnessed something so traumatic. Not to mention so traumatic of Shiro himself, of Rin's home, and of Rin's own body. All the things that Shiro had hoped Rin would never have to fear. Now they were probably the subjects of his nightmares.
Shiro rubbed his face, the rain was drowning out his sigh as it fell on the tin roof above his head. Reality had some great places to sit outside and be by yourself, this was one of them. A small sheltered bench out on a garden path. Sure the path itself wasn't very sheltered, and Shiro had walked out here in the rain. It wasn't the first time he'd walked in the rain and it surely wouldn't be the last. There was just something about rain that allowed him to take a breath. Which was slightly funny because the snow had such an opposite affect, it only made his chest tight and his eyes misty.
Shiro pulled out his phone, he called Rin, "Hey, come here a sec will you? I want to talk to you." He waited for his kid to answer, a soft smile on his face. He couldn't help those soft smiles, he got them even when his sons were pissed off with him. It must have just been something that came with the territory of being a father. "I'm at the side garden at Reality, just look for the tin roof. I'll treat you to sukiyaki after." The second sentence was no lie. Part of it was silly wishful hoping he could make it up to Rin for what he was about to bring up again. The other part was using it as a celebration. He wasn't dead here. He could still be Rin's father here, and that's all he ever needed.
After calling Rin, Shiro sat back on the bench, listening to the rain. There was a slight chill in the air from the rain, and the sound of frogs echoed in the distance. He sighed, his breath curling slightly a few inches from his face. He could only hope this conversation would go marginally better than last time. I don't want him to feel worse because I remember it all now. I can't even begin to explain how I can remember it, but... None of this is his fault and I need him to know that.
