So. Question. What are all those weird little outfits I keep seeing in places for? They don't seem particularly practical for some of the occupations they say they're meant for.

Those are Halloween costumes. They're not actually meant to be worn for work at all. I'm guessing where you're from no one celebrates Halloween.

Given the context of what you're saying, is that a holiday? That's not on the list of ones that I know.

Oh, sorry. Yes it is a holiday.

What do you do? What are the costumes for? Why are so many of them unnecessarily 'sexy'?

What we do now is not really what the holiday was originally intended to be but it has changed over the years. Now kids dress up as various characters from films or monsters from stories and go around houses to collect sweets. Adults dress up and go to parties, often times getting very drunk. And the costumes are unnecessarily 'sexy' because that is unfortunately the culture we live in.

Curious. Very curious. What was the origins, exactly? Is there a link between the costumes and the original purpose of the holiday? Or the gathering of sweets? Parties, I assume, are just parties. Those tend to happen around most holidays. Even the religious ones.

It might be easier for me to find some books on the subject for you as it goes back to the 1700's or at least the word does. There is a link but right now I can't recall all the details. And yes, parties are just parties but they usually have a theme such as a haunted house or something along those lines.

Is that far? Our calendars are different, too.

It's over 300 years. A year is 365 days, well it's actually 365 and a quarter so every 4 years we get an extra day. I don't know if you measure time the same way as we do though so I have no idea if our days are the same length as yours.

It seems like the astronomical aspects are consistent. It's just the way we measure and divide the time that passes that are different.

How do you measure and divide time where you're from?

Into Ages marked by significant events.

So Ages can be of varying lengths depending on significant events and when they happen?

Exactly! After all, world changing events don't really occur that often.

I don't think I could get on with measuring time in a way like that.

Too inconsistent? Dependent upon chance?

Yes, both of those things. I prefer to measure time in a much more consistent way.
