Recognizing that you wouldn't have bothered to destroy my professional credibility if I hadn't recognized the danger in your work has nothing to do with any sort of assumptions about myself and everything to do with recognizing that you're fundamentally incapable of caring about anyone beyond their usefulness to you.
Yes. Well, if you thought I wasn't clever enough to spot the issue or that I was amoral enough to ignore the risk to people, then I suppose you didn't know me at all. I should have called you out on it anyway, even if nobody would have believed me after what you did, but I carry my penance for that mistake. And I can rest easy knowing that history will ultimately forget you and that you will achieve nothing. The thought is certainly a soothing one.
