It seems that even without a specific focus with my work I still manage to lose all track of time when I'm in a lab. I'm sure I'm not the only scientist who has experienced this phenomenon. So I would like to ask my fellow scientists for tips they may have to help avoid this happening all the time.

[ WILL ]

Do you maybe want to go out for dinner instead? I suddenly realised what the time was and even if I leave the lab now it will still end up being really late before we eat if we cook something.

[ DAISY ]
If you're not too busy this week we should go for coffee or something to catch up properly. I miss you.

[ WARD ] [content of message is deleted but she forgets to delete the filter]
I know you left Newton on my doorstep

I never said

Thank you for

I was starting to wonder whether something had eaten you. But that sounds like a plan. Much better than my instinct to bring something to you.

I'm sorry if I worried you. Wait, you were going to bring me something?

Of course. Much longer, and you were going to end you famished and losing focus. Never mind actually coming back in time to cook something.

I think it might actually have been my hunger that caused me to realise the time. I'm sorry, you've probably been waiting for me to come back so you could eat. Can you forgive me?

I used to set up alerts when I worked alone. Just to give myself a sense of how much time had passed. I've found it's more difficult to lose track when you're working with a group.

I should have done that. I'm not used to working alone so I didn't even think about it. It's definitely more difficult to lose track of time when working with others.

That would explain it. You're used to having someone else there to pull you away or break your concentration so you realize how long you've been at it. You've just got to figure out how to adapt to not having things around to break your focus.

I am used to there being someone else there. I could just see if there's someone that wants to share my lab but that could bring a whole host of other problems with it.

I think you must have made a mistake. Unless you were trying to yell at me. But you can do that in public, you know.

Oh god

The only mistake was not completely removing the filter. I wasn't going to yell at you. And even if I was I wouldn't do it in public. I don't want everyone knowing my business.

Why did you care?

So you left me a puppy? Do you do that to all the people who arrive here traumatised?

Well, no. But there's a difference between I died back home and really need a drink trauma and I don't know how to process that I exist in this physical space trauma.

Trauma is trauma but everyone deals with it in different ways.

So you left me a puppy because I couldn't process being here? Because I'd just spent six months stranded on an alien planet and didn't know how to deal with being here. I'm sure plenty of people don't know how to deal with being here when they first arrive.

I pressed the line too hard with Sky Daisy trying to convince her I was doing the right thing for a change. I wasn't going to make that same mistake again.

Be well, Jemma.

You can't convince people you are doing the right thing by talking to them, you have to show them through your actions.

Same to you, Ward.

I'm just not used to working alone in the lab. It's quite an adjustment.
