Eddie hadn't known how to feel when Belle had told him that she'd invited Eobard over to see Gideon. He knew what he had felt initially. Panic, intense and rather sudden panic over exactly what Eobard's intentions and actions would be over the issue. Eddie knew he should have left it alone, but there was a rather large part of him that was terrified of what Eobard might do if he was left alone with the two of them for too long. So he'd left his apartment. He'd left his apartment and made the trek to Belle's only to walk in on a scene that didn't really compute in his head.
Belle was crying. That was the first thing he noticed, the most immediate thing, but what really threw him off was the fact that Eobard seemed to be... trying to comfort her? There was still a generous distance between the two of them, but Eobard was leaning over, a hand resting on her arm in a way that was neither... domineering or threatening in a way that Eddie would expect. It was odd, and it was even odder still when it became obvious that Eobard hadn't noticed him yet.
"Someone like that has a skewed goal in mind," Eobard said, his focus firmly placed on Belle. "One that they're going to achieve no matter what it's going to cost them in the end. It's nothing to do with you or your worth. He might have loved you immensely, more than he could have ever fathomed doing so. But in his mind... He cared about himself more."
Eddie couldn't help but snort a bit, and that was enough to draw Eobard's attention, causing the man to shrink back and away from Belle as they locked eyes.
"Hitting a little too close to home?" Eddie asked, arching an eyebrow at the other man.
"I have no idea what you mean, Edwin," Eobard said, going a little stiff as he stared at the other man. "And I know your parents taught you to knock. Have you forgotten all of your manners."
