Quentin Coldwater & Eddie Munson
His arrival date | Middle of somewhere? | Medium?

SUMMARY

We are definitely not in Fillory anymore, Nimue...Nimue???.
⚠ Q's arrival panic, Possible mention of death, missing pets?

It was Spring Break and Quentin thought a good way to spend it would be in Fillory so he'd booked himself a trip through the transportation service and packed the few things he would need, including his crown. This time he decided to bring Nimue to show her where her daddy spent some of the best years of his life. Or should he call it his best life? Some days he thought one way some days he thought the other. No matter what, he had been his happiest there.

Having a crown still meant something, so he and Nimue were able to stay at Castle Whitespire, but he wanted to show her the cottage at the mosaic."I wonder if the cottage is even still there. The last thing I remember about that time was one of my grandkids had moved in with me. Teddy said it was so I could teach him magic, but I know he was there to keep an eye on me." He created a portal in his bedroom and walked through it, expecting to find the place he'd raised his little family. He stepped through it with the cat on her leash and looked around at the space.

"This is...not where I meant to be." Quentin was caught so off-guard by the unexpected landscape that he loosened his grip on Nimue's leash just enough for her to get away in her panic. He ran off after her, calling out her name. "Nimue! C'mon...I don't wanna get more lost than we already are!"

That damned cat! Not that he could really blame her. She was just a cat and she was in a completely foreign place that didn't even smell a little bit like home. In fact it smelled like...he couldn't place it but it was not entirely pleasant. Thankfully for the cat he had made sure to get her the kind of harnes that would snap off of her if she got caught somewhere. Which is how he knew she'd gone this way, but there was no telling where she was now. He stooped to pick it up and sighed. "Well, shit."

Well shit was about to get a whole lot worse.

Eddie Munson rode like a devil on his swoop bike. Behind him, keeping up with the slender hovercraft that looked like a futuristic, post-apocalyptic motorcycle from just about any large budget sci-fi movie, was a beat three times the size of the bike that looked like a very angry ferret mixed with a bat, covered in white fur.

Eddie clearly had done something to piss it off. It probably had to do with the very large pinkish and gray striped egg strapped to his bike. (An apology present for Steve.)

Seeing the stranger up ahead, Eddie had a choice.

Choice One: forget the stranger, keep riding, the stranger was on his own.

Choice Two: drive toward the stranger, see if the beast chases the person on foot and forgets him.

Choice Three: stop and pickup the stranger, try to get them both to safety.

Choice Four: stop and pickup the stranger, try to get them both away from the monster, eat the stranger for lunch.

Eddie had about thirty seconds to decide. He drove toward the stranger, taking option one off the table. He wasted valuable seconds stopping by the stranger to pick him up, taking option two off the table.

Eddie's features were hard to make out. He had a helmet, goggles, and a bandana around his power mouth. The words, however, and the angry ferret-bat creature, made the situation crystal clear. "Get on, now."

Lucky for Quentin, Eddie's swoop bike seated two. Unlucky for Quentin, Eddie hadn't fully decided if Quentin was lunch or if he was taking him to the campus or not.

So maybe walking through what appeared to be an abandoned hellscape and calling for his cat might be one of the dumbest things Quentin had ever done. MIGHT. But he hadn't put that much thought into it until he stopped and actually looked at his surroundings.

Before he had time to think too much he heard the sound of an approaching vehicle of some kind. He thought it looked familiar but the thing that was coming behind it did not look familiar. Or friendly. On instinct, he brought his hands up and went through the motions to throw out a few magic missiles (don't laugh) at the bat thing as the bike (?) came to a stop.

"Yeah." He grabbed hold of the offered arm and swung himself up onto the bike and clung to the man. "Thanks."

This was not going to go well. He didn't have the goggles or a bandana so he just turned his head so he was mostly protected by the body of the bike's driver. It did occur to him that he might have just jumped out of the proverbial frying pan and right into the fire.

It was the magic that saved Quentin's life. Both because it made him useful and because Eddie didn't know how powerful this ... warlock? wizard? ... was. Better not to chance it.

"Don't suppose you have any other magic tricks," Eddie shouted in the direction of his hitchhiker. Sure, Eddie could have ditched the large pink and grey striped egg he had strapped to his bike, but that was his apology present to Steve.

It made since why mama was chasing him. Didn't stop Eddie from taking it.

"I know some." The fact that he needed his hands free for most of the spells did not help. He tightened his grip and shifted so he could look back at the bat thing.

OF course it was still coming after them. He frowned and shook his head. "What do you know about those things?" He knew a way to make them invisible, but if the bat thing could sense their body heat that wouldn't make a difference.

Eddie glanced back, too.

"They really don't like it when you take their eggs. Hold on!"

Eddie shifted gears on the swoop bike, and the speed felt like it doubled. Eddie didn't know how fast he was going, the thing didn't have a speedometer. Based on the force, it certainly felt faster than any car he'd blown past the speed limit with.

The good news is they seemed to put space between them and the monster.

The bad news was Eddie had no idea how long the swoop bike could stay in one piece like this.

Or the likeliness of a crash. Eddie let out an excited holler.
