Who: Thaddeus Pucey and Amanda Dursley (closed)
When: Saturday, July 11th (backdated)
Where: Hogsmeade Village
Summary: Thaddeus and Amanda meet face to face for the first time.
Rating: PG, not high. Thaddeus basically pours on the charm and flirting.
Thaddeus had been working and was sent to the Wizarding Wireless Network Headquarters in Hogsmeade in order to turn in an official printed statement regarding a Quidditch affair to be read over the air. It was not uncommon for Thaddeus to end up here and there during work hours, after all it was a part of his job as a Media Representative for the Department of Magical Game and Sports. After Thaddeus turned in the statement, his work for the day was finished and he would be able to relax. As he exited the Wizarding Wireless Network Headquarters, he felt relief of his work day finally being over as he loosened his tie around his neck and unbuttoned the top button of his shirt in order to feel more comfortable. Walking through the village, Thaddeus’ eyes stopped upon Honeydukes as he thought about his nephew Radley. While Radley still did not have the slightest idea as to who his uncle was, Thaddeus often sent and dropped off gifts for him whenever he could, just because he could do so. Even now that Thaddeus was dealing with a lot of stress in regards to Uri Dolohov and his family, he still would not stop doing things that he always did, especially not because of his bastard brother-in-law.
Upon entering Honeydukes, Thaddeus knew his way around from memory, especially from times he had visited during his school days. He found himself stopped at the chocolate frogs and something, or more so someone caught his attention from the corner of his eyes. Thaddeus looked over and that is when he saw her, Amanda Dursley. She had even been more beautiful than her pictures that Elias had taken. Thaddeus found himself standing there looking ridiculous, not that anyone would have noticed. He watched her, observed her expression and movements as she shopped. Finally, he decided to follow her to a display of acid pops and speak.
“Amanda, right?”
----
Amanda had been avoiding anything written by Elias or Thaddeus since the big misunderstanding/fight that had happened. Maybe if she stopped thinking about it, it would help but as usual, she just couldn’t. Part of her knew it was all her fault and it made her sigh just to think about it.
She should have known, really. Older man, clearly more experienced and obviously not going to bother dealing with her any more.
Mandy tucked her hair behind her ear and picked up a few Sugarquill along with a few lollies when someone came up to her. Trying her best not to look too freaked out, she blinked at the man she obviously didn’t know, then remembered she hadn’t warded her pictures. Of course plenty of people had seen them.
“Um, hi.” She replied, her cheeks coloring slightly.
--------
“Hi,” Thaddeus responded lightly still not fully realizing that Amanda had no idea who he was or why he was approaching her.
“Oh, you know who I am.” Thaddeus believed that she did, although she had no idea what he looked like or who he was other than talking through the journals. He couldn’t stop looking at her, he couldn’t stop being way too obvious. He probably looked like a complete creep, but it was a natural reaction.
“I’m Thaddeus,” he stated almost in a choked out realization.
-----------
Blood drained from her flushed cheeks and she her mouth opened, then closed. She didn’t know what to tell him, not after what had happened and the fact that he kept looking at her didn’t help either. “Hi..” To be honest, she hadn’t expected him to approach her at all and she bit her lower lip, pretty sure this conversation would be over soon anyway.
So much had been said and she hadn’t even replied to his last comment either.
-----
Thaddeus honestly hadn’t even thought too much about the last time they had talked and the hurtful things that he had said, mostly because he hadn’t meant any of it. It had just been fear of rejection and he had tried to replace the wall that had started to come down and allow her in. The odd thing about the entire scenario was that he hadn’t wanted or even expected to let her in, but somehow she had found a way and he had tried to be completely honest aside from all the flirting and joking and it had not worked, so what was he to do? He was trying to come out of their talk with his ego somewhat intact, although it had pretty much ruined any chance that he had likely at getting to know her.
“Look, I think maybe we should talk?” He said in a more questioning tone than anything. After all, what was he supposed to say? Telling her that he was an asshole and was sorry seemed too easy. “What I said, when we spoke last…” His voice trailed off as he peered at her, his eyes
catching hers peering at him. “I didn’t mean what I said. Any of it.”
-----
As he talked, Mandy grew more uncomfortable. She knew what it was like to throw out hurtful things and then apologize for them. She also had tried to take things back and it didn’t work that way. “You know, there is something I do know.” She settled her lollies in a little basket she was carrying and turned to face Thaddeus. “Things said in anger, we mean them, you know.” It had taken her a while to understand that too.
“You changed your mind, took back what you said at first, then you..” Amanda chewed on her lower lip and shook her head. “You are taking it back again. I’m not confused, but what’s the truth?” How was she supposed to get to know him and possibly trust him after that?
“Or maybe the truth just came out once you were angry and now I have to deal with that.” She had no problem being called out on her bullshit, as long as they left personal insults ‘at home’.
----
The truth, she had asked for the truth. Why did Thaddeus feel more confused than she did at this point? He didn’t understand nor did he understand how she got to him the way that she did, and this only being the first time they had met face to face.
“Hey,” he started moving his hand to her arm and lightly grasping it. “I just know that I have no idea about anything, but I know there is something more here than what I am feeling comfortable about.” That much had been true, he was feeling really uncomfortable, and he just kept eyeing her down, he could not get over how beautiful she was and he had felt like crap for trying to hurt her just due to his own stupidity and ego. “Let me make it up to you, let me take you to lunch? I mean, you’re here and I’m here, nothing to lose right?”
Was there really nothing to lose? Thaddeus wasn’t sure. But he wanted to see where this truly was going to lead. That was if Amanda ever gave him a chance to redeem himself. “I know I hurt you, and I can’t fix that or take it back, all I can do is try to redeem myself in your eyes and I am willing to do that, if you will allow me to.”
Thaddeus sighed out loud, “God, you’re beautiful.”
-----
Amanda took a step back, not when he touched her but when he told her she was beautiful. She was aware that she did have pleasing aesthetics, but being told so boldly was a first. Not even Noah..
Blinking, Mandy, looked away for a moment, not having a clue what to say. “I don’t know, this is..” Usually, apologies came with a kiss and snuggles but this was a different situation and she needed to adapt.
“I don’t know.” She resigned herself to say, completely honest and opened about it. She was usually a bit more guarded, but hiding only lead to misunderstandings. “There is still time to forget about everything and brush it off as an incompatibility.”
