WHO: Amycus and Alecto Carrow WHEN: After classes, Wednesday, December 12, 1976 WHERE: Slytherin Common Room WHAT: Just some sibling interaction RATING: PG-13, because Amycus has a dirty mouth.
Amycus trudged into the common room after Ancient Runes, bag slung over his shoulder and a very bored look on his face. He headed straight for the two armchairs in the corner that he and his sister had occupied for the majority of the past four years. Alecto was already there, her nose in some book, and he loudly dropped his bag beside his chair with a thunk, and flopped down, draping himself across the armchair.
"Babbling is a miserable old bitch," he declared moodily. "Ten pages of translations due by Monday! Tiny print! I'm going to have to skip Dueling Club this weekend."
Alecto's nose remained in the book as her brother slapped himself into the chair beside her. Her eyes continued to skim the page as he spoke to her.
"You have more than enough time to do that, Amycus." Her tone was calm, as she knew that these things tended to come easier to her than they did him. "You'll be fine. And if you start now, you may be able to get to Dueling Club."
He crossed his arms in a pout. He didn't like it when she talked to him without looking at him, and he didn't want to start now.
"Who needs Runes anyway? I sure don't. Can't wait until O.W.L.s are over so I never have to set foot in that classroom again. What are you reading so intently?" Amycus had the tendency to ask multiple questions without waiting for the answers, especially when he felt he was vying for attention.
She knew, by merely listening to the tone of his voice, that Amycus was probably pouting. Despite this fact, however, Alecto continued to let her eyes roam the browning pages of her book.
"Complaining about it isn't going to make it any better." She silently lifted the bind of her book to show Amycus as she read. Torture Methods For Revealing Witches in the 15th Century
Well, he wasn't going to sit here and watch her all day while she read. He'd been bored enough in stupid Runes.
"Al," he whined. He reached one foot out and nudged her knee. "C'mon, Al, look at me. Pleeease?" he cajoled, giving her his best puppy dog face.
Alecto enjoyed playing this little game. Sighing, she continued to "read" as her brother pestered her. Now she wasn't frustrated anymore, just amused.
Sadly, this was a familiar scene.
"Ally..." he coaxed, nudging her knee again. "Let's go to the kitchens, or practice hexes...or we can even play chess if you want." He made a face. Amycus hated chess. He didn't have the patience for it. However, it was better than just sitting staring at the fire.
Alecto couldn't handle it any longer. She didn't want to hear his sad voice. Leaning over towards him, she nudged his arm.
"We can do whatever you want, love." He was too good at making her cave to him.
Amycus's face lit up with a grin. "Okay! But we won't play chess. You always win anyway."
He kicked back and folded his hands behind his head. "So what are we going to do?"
Alecto got up out of her chair and pushed it closer to Amycus'. Sitting back down, she laid her head over his arm rest. "Not a clue."
She was quiet for a moment. "Anything interesting going on lately?"
He shrugged. "Nah. Not within Slytherin, anyway. D'you read those journal thingies? Haven't opened mine yet."
She nuzzled her head into his side a bit. "I've read them a little bit. Not so much. There's some drama with Lupin and Evans, though. Bet your pal Potter would enjoy that business." She smiled to herself, knowing that just mentioning James' name would bother him. She really didn't have much against him, except for the fact that her brother didn't like the Gryffindor foursome.
Amycus scowled. Gryffindors were beyond annoying, and he didn't really care what was going on there. However, misery for Potter was good news for him. He reached over to ruffle her hair a bit.
"Sounds riveting. Well, best of luck to Loopy Lupin and Miss Mudblood. May they make pretty Gryffindor babies, and all that rot." Alecto was the only one who ever really heard how prejudiced Amycus was.
Gryffindor babies, indeed. They'd actually be quite adorable, however, she neglected to share that tidbit with her brother. That, along with the fact that she didn't share the same opinions. She had no problem with Gryffindors.
"You realize, that attitude won't get you very far in life, darling." She nearly purred as he played with her hair; an immediate weakness for her.
"You tell me so every day, Al. Guess I'm just a slow learner," he said nonchalantly. He didn't really care, although he heard often enough that it was wrong for him to think that way. His beliefs had been drummed into him too long ago.
Alecto couldn't say she was fully pure of thought, either. Her parents had drilled the idea of purity of blood into her from the day she was born. She, did, however, try to stem away from the way of her parents. It was the one thing her and her brother didn't see eye to eye on; their views.
"What on earth would I do without your head rubs?"
Amycus laughed. "You were a cat in another life."
They sat in silence for a few moments, him massaging her head and just thinking. "Are we staying here or going home for break? Ladies' choice." It didn't really matter one way or the other to him, as long as he and Alecto were together.
She emphasized his words with a mock purr from the back of her throat.
"Hmm, that's a tough one. Spend Christmas here? Or spend it with our lovely parents back home.." The answer was obvious to her. "Do I really need to say it?"
He chuckled softly. "Hogwarts in all its Christmas glory it is, then. You know Mum's going to fuss about it. Again." Amycus wasn't looking forward to that letter.
"So..." he began casually. "What are you getting me for Christmas?"
That was quite the dreadful letter that she sent the year before, but she couldn't make them come home.
"I'm going to get you laid."
Amycus let out a short, surprised laugh, before recovering quickly.
"Well, you know I don't like blondes," he said. "Otherwise, I thank you in advance."
"Well, she has to be like me, of course. But not too much like me. I don't want you to want to spend more time with her than me." She smirked to herself.
"What are you getting me?"
Bending down, he kissed her on the top of the head. "Who could take your place, Al?" Back in first year, some boys had teased Amycus for being so affectionate with his sister. Until Amycus had gotten them out of the earshot of professors. Then they didn't bother Amycus or Alecto anymore.
"I'm getting you coal," he teased her.
Her brother was the most important man in her life, nothing could ever change that. She thought of the rumors about the two of them that had gone around school for a while, about them being together in ways a brother and sister shouldn't be.
She pouted up at him. "But coal is for people who are naughty. I haven't been naughty.. yet."
He mussed up his hair, crossed his eyes, and stuck out his tongue, then said, in a perfect imitation of Sybill Trelawney, "I have the Sight, Alecto. I can see Dark things in your future. You will do terrible things, like put itching powder in your dormmates' knickers again. And then you'll be promptly trod upon by a rogue dragon. The end."
"Nothing about sex?" She pouted again, disappointed. She loved to tease her brother. He still had trouble coping with the thought of her having sex and doing anything dirty.
She nuzzled up to him. Amycus was the best holiday gift she could ask for.
Amycus made a face as he put an arm around her. "Yes...I see...You'll remain a virgin forever. No sex. Terribly sorry." Of course he wasn't. She would stay a virgin as long as Amycus had anything to say about it. He didn't trust anybody with his baby sister's innocence.
"The way you talk about sex, though, it must be good." She didn't really mind the thought of still being a virgin, she did like to tease him, though.
"Mmm, maybe I'll give myself over to James Potter. Or Loony Lupin. That would be fun, don't you think?"
He laughed, realizing that she was just trying to get to him.
"Unfortunately for you, I think they're both partial to redheads. Hard luck there, Al. Guess you'll have to find somebody else to drive your poor brother crazy with."
"What about that Sirius Black, then? Pureblood, dark hair... hmm, possibly a resemblance to my dear brother..." She looked up at him and winked. She knew the idea of her with Sirius would probably throw him over, at least she hoped it would.
To be quite honest, she had barely ever said one word to Sirius, but she had heard plenty about him. She really hadn't given him any thought, though.
Amycus scowled. Lupin and Potter were bad enough, but Black? Black was a blood traitor of the worst kind.
"What about you stay my nice, innocent virgin and don't give me a heart attack?" he retorted, half sarcastically, half hopefully.
Alecto lifted her head up and looked at her step-brother.
"The idea of me having sex gives you a heart attack?" She smirked at him. "Maybe I should just test that theory."
"Well," he began thoughtfully. "Maybe you don't have to stay a virgin forever. But...shag a Slytherin, yeah? Or a nice Hufflepuff who won't break your heart. Or a Ravenclaw who's smart enough to treat you right, if he knows what's good for him."
"I don't think there's anyone who would treat me right." She looked at her hands for a minute. "And a Slytherin? Please! I thought you said you wanted it to be someone who would treat me right?"
"Better a Slytherin than a Gryffindor," he muttered.
"And whoever you end up with had better treat you right, cause I know a fucking load of hexes," Amycus said threateningly.
"It's a pretty well-known fact that most Slytherin men end up beating their wives. Besides, virginity isn't that important."
Pursing her lips together. "There isn't anything wrong with Gryffindors."
Amycus snorted dismissively. "Other people's virginities are not important. It's your virginity I'm concerned about."
"And fine, there's nothing wrong with Gryffindors," he surrendered. "But they bother me, and whoever you end up shagging, I have to like. End of story."
"How can you be so concerned with my virginity when yours is already gone?"
"Is there ANYONE you like enough for me to shag them? And, no, don't say yourself." She laughed to herself at the thought.
That last comment didn't bother Amycus as much as it probably should have. When one went through the kind of teasing that he and Alecto had endured for the past four years, one got used to the idea of sleeping with one's step-sister. He wasn't comfortable with it, but it's not something that repulsed him.
"Because you're my Al, and I'm concerned about everything with you. And I'm sure there's somebody. Just haven't found him yet."
Alecto couldn't help but laugh. "And, hypothetically speaking, what if this somebody you speak of happens to be a Gryffindor. What then, love?" She reached her arm up and mussed up Amycus' hair.
He ducked his head and brought a hand up to fix his hair. "If there's a Gryffindor that you and I both like well enough, then have at. Doubt that'll happen, though." Because it would be a cold day in Hell that Amycus found a Gryffindor that he liked.
"Mmmmm..." It wasn't really a sound of agreement or disagreement, just a confirmation. It wasn't as though his words would keep her from doing something, although they usually made her think twice.
Amycus was pacified for the moment. Alecto very much had a mind of her own, but he was fairly confident that she wouldn't do anything (or anyone) too stupid. James Potter, indeed.
"Good," he said, planting a kiss on the top of her head. "You know I'm only protective 'cause I love you, right?"
"I love you, too." She lifted her eyes up to look at him. It was comforting knowing that no matter what she did or how much she screwed up, he would always be there for her.
He smiled to himself. He was so lucky, to have the relationship he had with Alecto. They had no secrets from each other, and could talk about anything. He pitied the people who didn't have that kind of thing in their lives. They must be awfully lonely.
Amycus yawned. "It's your turn to write Mum, by the way."
Alecto made a face. "Already?" She sighed at the thought of writing another letter to her mother.
"Don't forget to tell her we're staying here for the hols," he said cheerfully.
He nudged her with his shoulder. "Hey, at least you don't have to tell her you got three detentions in one week." Amycus still shuddered at the thought of the Howler he'd gotten after that little episode.
