[ooc: Alright, yes, sorry for not putting this up sooner. I'm not sure how this thread's going to work, and it'll probably a free for all/won't actually close, but have at it!]
There was nothing like a fresh blanket of snow to stir up rivalries between the sexes. Frank couldn't help but feel a little responsible, but honestly, he wasn't upset about it. Actually, he was sort of proud of himself for organizing something of this magnitude. He was already outside a few minutes earlier, building a pseudo-fort for his team and building his arsenal. Hey, if the guys were going to get their arses kicked, why not get a head start?
Adelphie walked outside, breathing in the fresh air. Merlin, she loved this time of the year. It was her favorite! And today was going to be so much fun because she got to play in the snow with her friends! Addie was extra bundled up, clad in a water proof jacket and a pair of jeans. She knew that they were going to have a snowball fight, boys vs. girls, and she wanted to be ready. She had her Gryffindor scarf wrapped tightly around her neck and a pair of gloves on her hands to keep them warm for when she was making snowballs.
As she rounded the corner, Adelphie caught a glimpse of Frank already building up his fort. She smirked devilishly and gathered up a rather large ball of snow and hid behind the bush so that she could sneak up on her fellow Gryffindor. She crept out from behind the bushes and threw the snowball and hit him on the shoulder. She laughed and ran away trying to gather up another snowball on her way.
Frank immediately stopped what he was doing and looked up. "Oi!" He shouted, unable to hold back a small laugh. "You're early!" And with that, he scooped up one of his premade snowballs and tossed it at her. She was a pretty easy target, stooping to gather more ammunition, and he had a pretty good arm as it was.
"Ha! I told you I was going to get you Frank!" Adelphie said, just before she was met with a snowball to the chest. She wondered what she had gotten herself into. Frank had a pretty good throwing arm, and her aim wasn't the best when she was bursting into a fit of giggles. Addie brushed the snow off her jacket and threw the snowball she'd stopped to make. "Not as early as you Longbottom! You've already got a whole arsenal back there!" she said nodding towards his fort as she took shelter behind another bush.
"Of course he does! Did you expect him to organize a snowball fight and NOT have a head start?" Dirk laughed. It's was what he would have done. He'd only left a few minutes after Frank (he couldn't find his gloves) and had been planning on helping. So much for that. Adelphie was going to make them use all of their stored ammunition.
Adelphie laughed as she spotted Dirk, and ran to take cover just in case. It was two against one, which wasn't nearly fair! AND they had a snowballs stacked up behind that little make-shirt fort! Maybe Addie should have waited for Georgie and the others before she jumped straight into "battle". She always did do things before thinking them through, though Alecto was sitting on a nearby bench. Maybe she was just waiting for the opportune moment?
Poking her head out from behind her cover, Adelphie looked over at her two friends. Apparently, she'd spoiled their fun. "But that's cheating! You boys already have a armory full of snowballs!" Addie couldn't help but smile as she retreated back behind the bush so that she could gather up enough snow to make another snowball. She wasn't going out there without any weapons! She wasn't that stupid.
Frank laughed, and shook his head, "Sure it's fair! You girls have at least six extra people, we're just evening the odds!" Frank was very good at reason when it worked for him. And building himself an arsenal seemed pretty reasonable to him. "Hey Dirk, mate! Start packing snow!"
Ha! Frank didn't have to tell Dirk twice! He was already on it. The balled up snow in his hands joined Frank's pile and he was soon at work on a second one.
But of course, packing snow wasn't nearly as fun as wailing on Adelphie, so he held a finger to his lips to silence Frank as he crept toward the bush.
Adelphie had been busy working up her own little arsenal of snowballs and wasn't paying attention to the boys. She looked over her shoulder to see Sage being tackled by her brother and Addie couldn't help the smile that graced her lips. She stood up again, snowball in hand, and courageously stuck her head out of the bush to throw her freshly made snowball at the boys.
She half screamed, half laughed as Dirk jumped out at her. Addie threw the snowball, trying to at least defend herself, before attempting to run away from him.
Alecto sat herself down on a bench nearby with a nice cup of hot cocoa. The festivities looked like fun, but she could do without them. At least for the time being. It depends on who showed up.
Wilkes sauntered outside, hands in his pockets, to watch the proceedings. He spotted Alecto sitting by herself nearby, and went to join her while waiting for some of his mates to show up for the fight.
"Thank Merlin, another Slytherin," he said with a grin. "Too much red out here for me so far."
Alecto looked over at Wilkes and nodded a greeting. Truth-be-told, while she was a Slytherin, she didn't really adopt all of their ways. Compared to most, she was actually nice to those with less pure blood than her own. Her brother, on the other hand, was a different story. Slythern through and through.
She was filled with pride, though. Her parents may be arseholes, but they made sure to bury some of their biases and stuck up ways into her.
Wilkes didn't really know much about Alecto, despite being her housemate, just that she was a year below himself. Pretty girl, though. And a fellow Slytherin amongst a gaggle of Gryffindors.
"Planning on playing, or just a spectator?" he asked. Wilkes, of course, was going to play. Whether it was Quidditch, Exploding Snap, or an inter-house, battle of the sexes snow war, Wilkes played to win.
She tilted her head to the side for a moment, considering his question. "I'll probably get up and play eventually." Secretly, she wished that brooms were involved, but she'd deal.
"What about yourself?"
He laughed. "I have a score to settle with a certain Sagittarius Wilkes. Seems she's laboring under the sad, sad delusion that she can not only beat me today, but that she's always been better than me. Ridiculous, of course, when I am so clearly the superior twin. I'll be playing, and winning."
Gwen, in passing, had overheard Wilkes' last statement. She had been making her way to a rather large crowd of girls, presumably the female fort for the snowball war.
Turning, she gave the fellow Slytherin boy a pretty smile, while nodding in acknowledgment to Alecto. "Oh, do be sure and get Sage for me." Gwen hadn't quite forgiven her roommate for the smelly atrocity she had left in the room a few days prior, and would relish in her defeat. Even if Sage was on her team. After all, it wouldn't be very fair of Gwen to chuck snow at a fellow team mate, now would it? Someone had to do the dirty work.
Getting to his feet, Wilkes sketched a gentlemanly bow to Gwen, wondering with amusement what his sister had done this time to incur the wrath of her roommates.
"With great pleasure, my lady." He flashed a grin and tipped her a wink.
Gwen returned the grin coyly, dropping into a mock curtsy.
"It's a pity I'll have to take you out as well. That is, if you'll be joining the festivities." She gestured toward the budding snow war.
A pity indeed, that I'll have to try my best to do the same," Wilkes replied. He smirked. "May the best man win."
Gwen narrowed her eyes slightly, placing her gloved hands on her hips. "Man? I think you're woefully mistaken."
Being so focused on Wilkes (he was so cute and rich, after all), Gwen of course did not notice his sister's coveted actions. But with sudden force, a snowball was soaring through the air, heading directly towards the back of Wilkes' head. Gwen raised her brows apprehensively, although a small smirk was playing across her lips.
The aforementioned Miss Sagittarius Wilkes had not missed a word of their conversation, cheerfully sneaking round the assembled, 'til she gotten close enough to a nearby tree to provide some substancial cover. Black cloaks and green-and-white scarves did not provide the best camouflage against a powdery white backdrop, after all. Just...another...inch... With a manic sort of grin on her face, Sage lobbed a decently sized snowball at the back of her brother's head. Or woman, arsehole, she thought, fondly.
Wilkes let out a loud yelp as he found himself with rather a lot of snow in his hair, spinning around to glare at his sister accusingly. He shook out his hair once, and then he was off, tearing after her and scooping up snow on the way.
Sage had already bent down to gather up more snow to create the small round projectiles that were not terribly effective weapons, but were excellent for target practise. Sticking her tongue out at him, she threw another at her, running backwards as he came toward her, not removing her eyes from him so she would know when to dodge. Idly, she hoped no one was behind her since if she tripped at this point, she would be at a major disadvantage and that was no fun at all.
Fortunately for him, Wilkes had had all the practise that Sage had at aiming missiles at moving targets. He charged her, flinging snow at her face and feinting right, then tackling her from the left.
Damn. All it took was one good hit to the face and her coordination was completely shot. It was all too easy for her brother to catch her off balance and she fell, slamming her right shoulder painfully onto the ground, but she had a high tolerance for the stuff and rolled with it, taking a handful of snow and twisting a bit in an attempt to get him with a faceful of the icy cold goodness that covered the ground.
She shoved snow into the side of his face, and he found himself with icy cold trickling into his ear and stinging his cheek.
"Bloody hell, Sage!" he cursed, then picked up his own handful of snow to retaliate.
His attack got her in the mouth and nose and she went rigid as a chill ran down her spine due to the snow coming into contact with her teeth. Gritting her chattering teeth and spitting snow back out, Sage let out a sound rather like a growl (since she was half-choking on snow and speaking wasn't really an option) and shoved him hard, not really sure when a snowball fight had turned into snow-wrestling, but she was an adaptable girl, she would go with it.
