Who: Sirius and Gwen What: A walk in the snow Where: The grounds When: Sunday morning Rating: TBD
Sirius had surprisingly woken up extremely early on this Sunday morning. After showering and getting dressed, he decided to go for a walk outside since he had time to kill before breakfast, and was he actually going to study or do homework? Obviously not.
He put on his cloak, tied his scarf tight, laced his boots, and headed outside. There was fresh snow on the ground from the previous night. Sirius almost felt bad for disturbing the blankets of snow, but decided that new snow would just fall and replace where his footprints were.
He went for a walk around the castle, enjoying the cold winds hitting his face - there was something energizing about this cold walk. However, he wasn't expecting company during this early morning walk.
Gwen, for as long as she could remember, had always awoken this early during the weekend, in order to help her parents with the family shop. But seeing as how both her family and the shop were now gone, it was second nature. Besides, she enjoyed the peace and quiet only early mornings could provide, when the dew still clung to green and shrubs and mist hung low over the lake.
This morning was quite windy, but Gwen was finely prepared. Clad in muggle casual (jeans, sweater), a scarf twined its way cozily around her neck. Atop her head sat a winter beanie, covering her hand warm gloves.
So comfortable within the cold, Gwen ventured about the castle grounds. Like Sirius, she did not expect to meet anyone on her walk. It was then she spotted a lone figure approaching her. She stopped momentarily, in order to gain a clearer view of who this person could be. Judging by the scarf's color, it was a Gryffindor, and by the height and structure, a man. Gwen couldn't care less if it had been a Hufflepuff, so long as the figure was male. She couldn't really help it; though she had her share of female friends, she preferred men.
"Hello," she said pleasantly, realizing who the boy was: Sirius Black. Rich, handsome, rebellious. What was not to like? She had had little contact with Sirius in the past, but knew him through a few friends, and decided it wouldn't hurt to greet him
Sirius recognized Gwen - they had some classes together in the past, after all. However, he knew she was a Slytherin, and he had a strong dislike of the house. "Hello, Gwen. You're up early," he said, figuring he would still give her the benefit of the doubt.
She nodded. "I'm always up at this time of day" Shrugging a little, she couldn't help but notice the disdain in Sirius' voice. Probably due to the colors marking her scarf (Slytherin, of course). If he was going to make an exception to be polite to her, Gwen was going to do everything in her power to prove Slytherin wasn't so bad.
Trying to make conversation, she said "You, however, don't seem the type to rise this early."
"I don't make it a habit, but I woke up an hour ago and couldn't get back to bed," Sirius said, shrugging. "Why are you always up at this time? It's an hour before breakfast."
Gwen returned a similar shrug. "I'm used to it. I had to help my family out back at home. My parents used to own a little shop." Not everyone was set for life, after all.
"You're not back at home, though," Sirius said. "You'd think that your sleeping habits would have adjusted to Hogwarts at this point."
"Yes, one would think." Gwen grinned. "I suppose I'm an exception." She began to absently twirl her scarf in her hands. Perhaps Sirius would relate to being the black sheep.
"So what do you help your family out with?" Sirius asked, curious about Gwen's home life.
"Mm, did, you mean?" Gwen said, casually enough. "The store and parents, both gone." Yes, she was sad about the accident that occurred last year, but had noticed the gains and had tried to move on. "It was a sort of alchemy shop. At least I'm good in potions because of it."
"I doubt you ever need to help your own family out." Gwen said with a laugh. "You guys are set for life, huh?" She was joking, although it was true.
"I'm sorry about your family," Sirius said. "Yeah, I'd be set for life if I had any intention of speaking to my parents once I graduated."
"Thanks." She said warmly, although her brows now furrowed together. "Not speak to your family? May I ask why?" A look of genuine concern had seized Gwen's face, and she was quite curious to know why Sirius would want to cut all ties to his family. Sure, everyone had their problems, but nothing that couldn't be worked out, right?
