He spotted the food and shook his head. There was something churning in his stomach and he wasn't sure eating was the best of ideas at the moment. Of course there was no way he could know that what was churning in his gut had nothing to do with anything physical. He wasn't used to having these kinds of emotions. Sure he had them as a hybrid, but he had learned how to deal with them. While they weren't stronger in this form, they did still seem to be some how more insistent on making their presence known. "No thank you. I am alright" he said, lying about the feeling in his gut. No need to admit to any kind of weakness.
"When I came in you were already asleep, so I went to the library for some reading and fell asleep in the chair" he answered. At least it was half way the truth. He had went there, but it wasn't for reading. He had needed to be alone to think. If he had admitted that to her it would show he was wavering in his desires about his brother not being here. It would give her hope that she could change his mind and he couldn't have that.
Of course she would assume she knew what he wanted. "And what makes you think I never wanted to be married, Hayley? You assume you know me so well already" he answered, trying to keep his emotions under check for the moment.
