It wasn't fine and as soon as the words slip through his mouth, Laurel walked by him, pulling the door shut so they would have privacy. She turned back to him, "You can drop the act," she told him in a somber tone as she moved to sit down in a chair, pulling the book to her lap. "I don't want or need you to pretend you want to protect me, just keep the other safe, I can handle myself."
Laurel open the book, her eyes just glancing over the pages, she was mad at him and rather just not talk about it.
