Break off yarn leaving long length for making up. Thread yard end on needle and pass through remaining 7 sts. Pull tight.
Making Up
With work inside out, sew the long seam from head to foot, leaving a good-sized aperture in the back. Sew the arm seams and pull the arms the right way out.
Turn the doll the right way out and stuff firmly (I used brown yarn chopped up), then sew up the aperture in the back. Stitch down the middle of the lower part of the doll to give the impression of separate legs, then across at ankle level to imply feet. Use a scrap of brown yarn to thread beneath the stitches at neck level and tighten to define neck. Finish off ends.
Finishing Touches
Hair is made by threading three strands of black onto a needle, passing beneath the scalp and then knoting firmly on the outside, tight to the scalp. Trim off excess yarn to desired hair length. Embroider on facial features with yarn scraps.
