Barty, thankfully, had not yet been experiencing pressure about the production of an heir for the Crouch name. No, all of the pressures he was receiving were from his mother about his career. After the disgrace of his father being demoted, Barty, Jr really was the only hope for the family. Although not a technical demotion (as his father was still a department head) everyone knew that being moved from the Department of Magical Law Enforcement to the Department of Magical Transportation was a kick in the stomach. And whether or not it was obvious, it had hurt Barty's possibilities of finding a suitable wife - until he could prove his own measure.
So, the career was the first order of business. He had it all sorted, but he couldn't tell anyone, and so he pretended to await his NEWT results in anxiety. He knew his scores would be outstanding. He also knew that no matter what his scored, he'd be the Minister's assistant - so long as his scores weren't completely humiliating.
He'd already gotten a glass of brandy and had sipped half of it away before Nat arrived. He spotted his cousin as he entered, and watched him order the pitcher. "Most fathers are. 'Tis the way of the world," Barty retorted. "I... am bored. Merlin, I expected being of age and technically an adult to be more exciting."
