Like most blokes, not even Evan could recall when it was that he started seeing Matty. Nor for how long. Nevertheless, he enjoyed spending time with her and getting to know her beyond their friendship. He was slowly learning how much they had in common and how nice it felt when they kissed. She was a breath of fresh air from his hectic busy work schedule. Being with her calmed him down and forced him to slow down. But maybe things were going a little too slow. The snogging and playful touching were nice, but like most young men his age, he needed that physical affirmation. And of course, he wanted to take things to the next level with Matty...
Dressed in some of his finer robes, he quickly checked himself over before knocking at the door. He held a small box of Matty's favourite chocolate truffles very securely in his arm and patiently waited for the door to be answered. His nerves were slightly rattled, though he knew he always felt this way before seeing her. Then again, maybe it was because he had intentions of discussing their relationship...
Matty gave the quick room a glance over and nodded her head in satisfaction at the work that the Elf had done. Smoothing down her robes she crossed the room to light the candles and turn the wireless up slightly.
She'd invited Evan over to listen to one of the plays being performed on the wireless. There was a new one on every week but the latest group were actually very intriguing and according to this weeks Prophet, were definitely worth staying in for.
The prospect of spending an entire evening with Evan to herself was a large part of the appeal - so far they had wined, dined and picnic-ed their way through London. Even now with a complicated buffet laid out on the table, Matty realised that they spent most of their time eating. There was something so relaxing about being around him that brief meetings would stretch into hours at a time.
Hearing the knock at the door that she'd come to recognise as Evans, Matty brought her hand to her face to check her breath before opening the door to him. "Hi," she said with a grin as her heart fluttered slightly at the sight of him in immaculately pressed robes.
Evan was slightly taken aback by Matty's cheerful and playful greeting that all he could do was smile from ear to ear. "Hello," he said with a small laugh. His eyes made a quick sweep of her body, admiring how she looked in that dress. She always looked so well put together, clearly a woman who took the time to take care of herself and in a way that peaked his interest in her even more. It was one of the little things that he appreciated in the opposite sex and Matty did it very well.
"You look lovely," he added shortly after, motioning to her dress with the box in his hand. It was then he remembered the truffles he had brought her. "Oh! I, um.. I got these for you. It's only chocolate truffles, but I couldn't come empty handed," he explained and although his tone was rather calm, there was a slightly nervous undertone.
She couldn't help it, she melted at the way he stumbled sightly over his words before ushering him into her flat. It was just like him to know her favourite chocolates and go to the trouble of bringing them for her.
Matilda accepted the compliment with a duck of her head as her grin deepened. "You brought yourself, thats all I need." She took a moment to show him the platters of food before making sure he was settled in.
Satisfied that all was well and her hosting duties were done well enough to make her mother proud, Matty moved forward to where he was standing in the room. Keeping her eyes on his she inched forward before sliding her hand gently into his. She was becoming more confident in the ability to touch him ; to feel his hand in hers, to know that if she tilted her head in a certain way that he acknowledge the unspoken request for a kiss. It was a new side to their relationship but as they moved from being friends into something more, Matty was becoming bolder in making the first overtures. With Evan it was all so simple and easy.
"It wouldn't be very proper of me to have a gift for the host," he said with a smile then gave her a wink. Evan followed her into the next room and was rather impressed to see all that she had prepared for just the two of them. He idly set the small box of truffles on the table with the platters of food then proceeded to pull off his robes and hand them to an elf that was immediately waiting to take it from him.
"You've done too much," he told her as he made his way to the center of the room then turned to look at her. There was a slight rush of excitement as he watched Matty approach him and it only intensified when he felt the soft touch of her hand slip into his. Lacing their fingers together, he gave her hand a gentle squeeze as he gazed down into her eyes.
Being with her like this was something like a holiday. She never bothered him about his work so he didn't have to talk about it. His overworked mind could take a much needed break, if only for a few hours, when he was with her. For that alone, he appreciated their time together even more.
He reached up with his free hand to cup her cheek and began to thumb over it smoothly. Without another word, he carefully tilted her head back then leaned in and pressed his lips softly to hers. The kiss was slow and sweet at first, but he gradually deepened it, softly pushing open her mouth open with his then slipping his tongue inside.
She settled into his embrace with a soft sigh. He was taller than her and broader in the shoulders in a way that had robemakers rejoicing. Sometimes when she glanced at him out of the corner of her eye ; moments when he was unaware of her gaze - she would wonder if the situation was real.
Her brothers would likely tell her that she was being absurd and Victoria would likely have chastised her about her fancies but with him there was no one else in the room. No one else who mattered.
Reaching up she slid her arms around his neck and gave herself over to the kiss. Music from the wireless was in the background but Matty was content for them to stay just as they were. Gradually though, she moved slightly away and let her head find the dip between his shoulders and neck and fitted herself there.
"I've thought about that all day," she admitted honestly.
Evan quickly found himself surrounded by her. Nothing and no one else mattered, it was just the two of them. For some time he had his eye on her, though no one knew except for him. He tried to harbor his feelings, afraid that of reactions from certain people. He thought that perhaps it was just a phase, that eventually he would forget about Matty. But now that he shared in these moments with her, he only wanted more.
He let out a low groan as she pulled away, not wanting the kiss to end. A smile quickly spread across his features as he looked down to her and held her tightly in his arms. "As was I," he said then rested his chin on her head. He opened his mouth to say something more, but quickly stopped himself. Now was not the time. Maybe after dinner would be best. Then again, he wasn't very hungry.
"What do you think about us?" He suddenly asked sounding rather nonchalant about it.
"About us?" Matty echoed a little stupidly before tilting her head to look at him. "Oh. Oh?" Her smile bloomed across her face as she realised the implication of his question. Strangely, she wasn't concerned about what he would say but she trusted him.
She gave trust easily but with Evan it felt natural.
"I like us," she admitted. "I like us as friends, and I like us as - as - this." She didn't move away and with a quick flash of her dimples turned the question back onto him. "Why, what do you think about us?"
Evan liked those dimples. They made him smile and he couldn't take his eyes off her.
Nevertheless, his lawyer logic quickly kicked in. His smile faded a bit and he carefully glanced over her face, studying her expression carefully. She liked them as this. Questions began to flood his business state of mind. What did she mean by this? Was moving forward not what she wanted for us? He was suddenly treating this like a case he had to prove.
"What do I think?" He echoed just as stupidly. It was bad form. Rephrasing a question meant you didn't truly know the answer. Any answer thereafter was either a fabricated lie or nerves preventing the truth from being said. He was well aware that she had rephrased his question before answering and he attributed that to nerves -- it caught her off guard.
"I think things between us are brilliant," he finally said. "I really like us and I really like you. The way it's been going is great and spending time together is very nice. I would like to take this and move forward." He spoke as though he were presenting a case to her. This sudden shift into a work-like mentality was not allowing to fully express what it was he wanted to tell her. Being a lawyer was all about angles and how to force a confession from someone. He didn't realize it, but he was trying this method on Matty.
Arching an eyebrow, Matty stepped back and watched Evan slip into lawyer-mode. It was far from the first time she'd seen someone she'd known segue into this form of argument ; Tom used it all the time until it was no longer as effective as he thought it was.
Not that she'd ever admit that. It was far too much fun to let them formulate, attack and question. His posture had changed once he'd begun to question her ; standing straighter somehow and Matty found herself watching with vaguely concealed interest.
"Move forward?" she said, consciously mirroring his words "I don't think we can move any further forward. Unless - do you want to? I mean, we could always move to the front room if you'd like."
Matilda bit her lip to keep herself from smiling and giving it away before ducking head and smiling. When she raised her head she was calm and collected.
It wasn't that she hadn't thought about going further with Evan but they had managed to find a natural pace that suited both of them. It was only natural that she'd thought about him in that way ; being close to him made everything else seem much less importance. And a small part of her was relieved (and just a little flattered) to know that Evan was just as keen to pursue that avenue.
"Have you finished summing up?"
A confused look washed over Evan's face. He hadn't a clue what she was on about; moving to the front room. His seriousness of the subject clouded his better judgement that it took him a couple minutes to realize what she meant.
"Very funny," he said in a rather dull tone, but a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. It was then he finally caught on to what he was doing. "And yes. Sorry..." he finally replied, giving her hips a gentle squeeze. He hadn't meant to become this way with her when broaching the subject of their relationship. Perhaps it was because he felt so strongly about what he was saying that prompt him to react in such a way. Nevertheless, he was grateful that Matty had a good enough sense of humor to catch on and tease him about it.
"I didn't mean to do that," he added shortly after.
"I figured," Matilda told him quietly before letting her hands slide underneath the jacket of his robes so that only the fabric of his shirt was separating her hands from him. "So to recap, you think we should move things forward?" It didn't take much of a stretch for her to place light kisses along his jawline as she punctuated each word. "I believe that I would be agreeable to that."
She took the fleshy part of his ear between her teeth and nipped lightly before sucking on the tender spot where it met his neck. "A grown up sleepover."
Evan closed his eyes as Matty moved closer to him, feeling her hands brush over his shirt, wishing that her palms could touch his bare chest. Instinctively he slid his hands over her hips, rounding them to the small of her back where he tugged her body flush against his. "I would, yes," he replied simply. He nuzzled her neck softly then pressed a short sweet kiss there.
"A grown up sleep over would be nice," he said as he thumbed along the spine of her lower back slowly. "But only if you're ready..." he trailed off, the excitement gradually building. He was still a man after all and he liked Matty very much, but he would like even more to make things a little more physical.
Matty couldn't help the soft groan as she felt Evan fit snugly against her. Every inch of her skin was intimately aware of him and how he felt pressed against her. She knew she was ready to take this to the next level and that subconsciously had been since the moment he had stepped into the flat.
"I'm ready," she told him without a hint of doubt in her voice "I want you to stay the night Evan and to sleep knowing that you'll still be there in the morning. I'm not nervous." Tucking a strand of hair behind her ears she grinned at him. "I'm very ready," she echoed.
Stepping back she offered him her hand. "Stay with me?"
The way she was standing before him, telling him she was ready and offering her hand to him, Evan couldn't say no. He wanted this to become a more grown up relationship, he wanted to make a much deeper connection with Matty and he certainly wanted to know what she looked like beneath those clothes.
"Of course," he replied in a soft smooth tone as he took her hand. "Lead the way," he added with a gleam in his eye and a sly smirk on his face. The excitement continued to grow, his heart already picking up it's pace.
