Dramatic Entrance
Characters: Jim, Juliet
When: Today, before Lily's 'cause Chronology.
Location: closer to the beach than any settled area, but in the forest
Warnings/Ratings: Jim Kirk.
Summary: Jim arrives and crashes through the forest like a heard of elephants.
Status: Complete!
When Jim rematerialized, it was not at all where he'd expected to be. Marlon V was a dry, barren sort of climate with Jawas. Or… you know, Marlons, but Jim made associations that were not really appropriate in his head that he tried not to say out loud. In any case, he'd been fully prepared to boil and roast to death in his (haha, breathable, right) Starfleet standard issue uniform. But upon looking around, he saw beach, forest, ocean, mountain… more… tropical paradise than barren desert.
His away team was conveniently missing, but he'd only had one or two beaming to his location, so possibly they were just behind. Grabbing his communicator, he clicked it open, talking without looking at it to make sure it was functioning, as was habit. "Kirk to Spock, are you getting this? Starfleet has to check their intel, this is the third surprise this month."
Silence. And now Jim actually checked to see if it was working - he couldn't tell - and tried again. "Kirk to Enterprise, please confirm my location?"
No response, and Jim heaved an annoyed sigh, pocketing the tech that now served only as added weight and pulling out his tricorder instead, trying to get a clear reading. After tapping it a few times, he determined that it too was pointless - there was probably something interfering with the signals that the tricorder and communicator were used to reading, and it was hardly the first time ever that it had happened - and pocketed it too.
"So," he said to no one as he started to stroll along the forest line, gazing in between the trees to see if he could make anything out among the branches - threatening natives, scary jungle beasts, or something new and different maybe - "let's see how far this beach goes."
---
Turns out? He could span this entire length of beach in a little over two hours. There was rock on both sides, sheer cliff with the possibility of a few caves but Jim hadn't felt like wading through water today to discover them. The forest was mostly silent - he could hear birds and other small animals if he really paused to concentrate on it, but otherwise it seemed mostly abandoned from the small stretch of area that he'd been perusing.
So, with nothing else for it, Jim had headed into the forest, armed with a phaser set to stun which… seemed to be working right now? But it wasn't going to hold it's charge for long, so Jim was desperately hoping he wasn't going to run into something akin to a drakoulias, or hengrauggi, or whatever it was that had chased him down on Delta Vega.
He hadn't so far - just a few Terran native creatures (which was weird in itself, but he justified it by saying that every planet had a similar sort of small-rodent forest infestation, and he wasn't getting a clear enough look at the creatures he was comparing to rabbits and squirrels, and if he did get a clearer look he would discover they were nothing like rabbits and squirrels and were in fact more like animals that were suited for an island climate far far away from Earth) - and some insects, though not as many as he'd been expecting when he'd first braved the tree line. He was hoping for some indication of sentient life, but hadn't stumbled onto a path yet. So he was just crashing through the bush, making a lot of noise, and vaguely hoping that some native didn't decide to shoot him with a poison dart and take him back to camp to roast him.
Though, of course, it wouldn't be the first time that had happened either.
