As long as there were things to take care of, even if it was just helping passengers off the plane, Caitlyn didn't have to stop and think. She could stay safe in the moment. Emmett was never far from her thoughts, but even he was pushed to the side once she saw he was alright. It was only after there was no one left to help that some of the insecurities started coming back.
She found a quiet place off to the side, not really secluded but at least out of the way. That was where Emmett found her, one arm wrapped around her midsection while she gazed at the creek; deliberately looking at an angle that cut the plane out of her sight. Cait shifted when Emmett said her name, then turned to face him. His arm was a temptation she couldn't afford, not when she still had to be strong, so she took a step closer and put a hand on his arm instead of accepting the offer for a hug. "I'm okay," she answered. Caitlyn studied him, looking for visible signs of injuries, but she didn't ask him the same thing.
"I don't know what to do, Em," she said while she turned, this time to look at the plane crash victims.
