It was another drinking night with Tom, they got together every couple weeks and invited whoever wanted to come along. It was always a fun time, the drinks making the conversation flow, and spirits rise. Voices filled the air at Theriot's, some louder than others.

	Tom slid into the stool next to her. He made eye contact with the bartender, asked for the usual, and turned to Evelyn with a friendly, if somewhat tired smile. "Sorry for running late. The bartender returned with a round of fries and drinks. He took a long, crispy one, added extra salt, then offered the basket to Evelyn. "How's working the tavern? Not too dull, I hope?"
