Penny took a step back as the Quintaped charged, noting a silvery animal shape flying off from somewhere behind her. Good. Angelina had been able to do it. Hopefully it wouldn't take the Minisry too long to assemble a team and get them here.
She swallowed nervously, waving the flames back and forth to get the beast's attention, though it already seemed to be focused intently on her. She was the only one waving multicolored flames around her head. "Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit.." Penelope was pretty sure she knew how a matador felt right now; she only wished the Quintaped was a bull.
As it was about to trample her, Penny twitched a slight turn and disappeared, reappearing right behind where it had just come from. The monster skidded to a halt, looking around for its prey. The flames were licking its backside now and it spun to face its attacker, only to find empty air. This deadly game continued for maybe a minute, the Quintaped unable to catch up to her as she Apparated again and again, always just a second ahead of it.
Until she slipped in the blood pooling around her dead friend's body, that is. Penelope felt her leg being jerked out from under her, sliding uncontrollably. She knew then that she was dead. She knew even before the spider-like creature turned and caught her around the middle with a thick, furry leg, crushing ribs and knocking the air out of her. The thing was so intent on just landing a blow, however, that instead of grabbing her, she was thrown backwards and through a window into the jewelry store that Marcus and Bridget had just been hiding in. Penny vaguely felt the glass cutting her before she landed in a jewelry case, smashing that open, as well. More glass entered her body. She looked down and saw the blood dripping from shards and onto the display case. Thousands of dollars worth of jewelry was being watered with her blood.
At least Charlie would understand why she'd died, for she was fairly certain that that was what was going to happen now. Penelope slipped into unconsciousness and knew no more for a time.
