She felt a bit like a coward hiding in an ice cream parlour, but the panicky voices behind her sounded like they were ready to flee out the door as soon as possible. They wouldn't all have time to Apparate and she knew that some of them wouldn't be able to. They'd only succeed in bringing the monster down on the rest. Speaking of which, a woman and a familiar face were now running full-tilt toward the parlour, the Quintaped following close behind.
Penny rushed to the door, throwing it open as fast as she possibly could and grabbing the woman outside to drag her in. The families behind the counter shrieked, some parents calming their kids and some yelling profanities at her back. Didn't they understand that the thing couldn't see them through her wards? She muttered and the end of her wand exploded into flames, becoming a giant blowtorch.
Stepping forward just as Angelina's shield wore off, Penny waved the jet of flames at the creature. The smell of burnt hair filled the air. She knew that the fire would only serve as a distraction, but that's all she needed until the Ministry was able to send a team in. The creature took a few steps back when it felt the searing heat and she took that time to look at Angelina. She spoke quickly, hoping the woman would be quick on the uptake. "We need to get it away from here. There's a lot of kids inside. Apparate down the street in front of the bookstore. I'll get it to follow, you send a Patronus to the Ministry. Can you? Three...two...one, go!" She couldn't wait for an answer and disappeared right as a massive foot crushing the spot where she'd been standing a moment before.
When she reappeared, her wand started emitting crackling sparks with the fire, as loud as fireworks. Her eyes fell on the lifeless body of Marcus Belby lying, broken, against the wall nearby. She choked in air, eyes immediately filling with tears. If she'd done something besides hide...no, there was no time for that right now. The Quintaped was already barreling down on them again.
