Hermione backed up when the Quintaped turned toward her. She lifted her wand again. "Protego!" She cried out, casting a thick protection charm around her. The huge animal gave a snarl and brought its massive feet crashing down through it, shattering the charm and knocking Hermione sideways into a building. She crumpled to the ground, her wand falling from her hand.
The wind was knocked from her, so as Hermione gasped for breath and scrambled to get her hand on her wand, the beast roared again, lifting a foot to crash down into her once more. As it came crashing down, Hermione rolled, grabbed her wand, and sent another severing charm against the beast's leg.
With another roar, the Quintaped stomped the ground around Hermione's body, landing another kick to her chest and sending her flying across the alley once more. She landed next to Anthony and laid still. Lucky for the two of them, the beast was distracted by other fleeing shoppers down the lane. It turned to stomp off, and Hermione opened her eyes. She had broken ribs and a bump to her noggin that made spots appear in front of her eyes, but she was otherwise unharmed. Again, lucky. Her attention turned to Anthony, wincing as she moved. "Anthony... are you all right?" She asked, reaching a hand out for his shoulder.
