All morning Katie had been a quiet mess. Any moment alone had been peppered with tears and throw up, though the majority of the latter she blamed on the parasite rather than the impending interview. Although handing in her letter of resignation had been the first step towards leaving the team, Katie viewed the upcoming meeting as the proverbial nail in the coffin. After the interview was published, everyone would know and denial would become extinct. At least Adrian was there to take the edge off; if she could just get going, she might actually have fun.
When the reporter didn't respond, Katie felt her stomach being punched by her pounding heart and she discretely prodded Adrian's ribs for assistance. Katie needed to be eased into the end of her beloved career, not shoot it between the eyes with the first bullet.
