There would absolutely be a time for explanations and understanding. Right now Verity Ashford-Wood just wanted to be held in her husband's arms and told that everything was going to be all right. She'd been abused emotionally and mentally, and physically assaulted. She felt dirty and ashamed, and frightened, but the most overwhelming emotion was relief. She wasn't going to die. She wasn't going to be raped again. She was here and safe, and her arms were wrapped around Oliver's neck and she was still crying. She was crying so hard it was difficult for her to get words out.
It would take a few minutes for her to calm down. She prayed that he would hold her, would lay a blanket over her, would tell her she was safe and she was loved. But she couldn't ask for those things, all she could do was cry.
