WHO: Draco Malfoy and Open to Anyone
WHAT: SALE
WHEN: Saturday, near closing
WHERE: Diagon Alley
RATING: TBD

Draco Malfoy wasn't much for window shopping. He didn't waste time and dilly dally, unless he had ulterior motives. Tonight he was on a mission. He'd done his research, he knew what he wanted, so he headed out and made a bee line for the store. What he was looking for was on sale... not that it mattered. But it was even more incentive--even more reason for him to know that this was right, this was the perfect time.

Once he reached the store, though, Draco paused for a moment to look through the window at the wares inside. There were beautiful necklaces on display, earrings, bracelets, watches, and... diamond engagement rings. His breath caught in a hitch when he realized what he was doing. This was it. This was real.

Harry was looking for Ginny's perfect present. He knew that he shouldn't surprise her with a house this time. Jewelry was always nice. He was walking around the cases, trying to decide what James wouldn't break if he tugged on it. Reflected in the glass he saw a familiar pale profile. Harry's head snapped up and he looked behind him to see Draco looking in the window.

Harry had an ingrained reaction to seeing Draco. His pulse sped up. His adrenaline started pumping, ready for confrontation. Sure, Harry had testified that Draco hadn't been able to kill Dumbledore. He testified that Narcissa had saved his life. He still loathed the guy.

There was a sudden movement behind the glass. Draco's attention was caught by it; by the reflection of the glasses, the change in the light. His eyes narrowed slightly when he caught sight of the boy wonder. Seeing Potter still brought a horrible blood-and-bile taste to his lips, but he chose to ignore it. Might as well be civil, right? The man did, after all, help his family.

Draco kept his eyes on Harry as he moved around the outside of the door and stepped through the entrance. The bell atop the front door jingled as he came through.

Harry watched Draco enter, noting that they were now making eye contact. He didn't want to look away. They were like dogs battling for Alpha status-- at least in Harry's mind-- and looking away would be admitting defeat. He had nothing to be ashamed of, so he kept his eyes trained on Draco.

"Malfoy," he said in greeting because it would be silly to pretend he didn't see him.

"Potter." Draco spat back at him. He didn't sneer on the name, but it wasn't the friendliest of tones, either. His eyes were trained on the other man's. He knew this was playing chicken, and he wasn't going to be the first to back down.

"Taking time off from saving the world, are you?"

"Someone has to finish cleaning up the mess," he said. The mess Draco's family helped to make, Harry thought to himself.

He knew Draco didn't think much of the Weasleys, but Harry was still quite proud of his smart, sexy wife. She could kick Draco's ass any day, on or off the pitch. "Just shopping for Valentine's Day."

Draco bit back a snide comment about how it was Potter's job to save everyone and everything like always. He didn't like Harry Potter in the slightest, but he didn't want to pick a fight on the street.

"You, too?" He added, trying his best to be civil. "For your wife?"

Who the hell else would he be shopping for? Did Draco think Harry would be the type of person to have something on the side? He furrowed his brow and took a beat to make sure his glare said it all. When he finally spoke he said, "Of course," but what he really meant was, "Of course, dumb ass."

Well, there was Granger. He could have been getting something for her. Hey, he was putting in a bit of an effort, wasn't he? Not that it mattered. Not that he cared. Draco finally tore his eyes away and went over to the case with the engagement rings so he could get a better look.

"Good luck."

Harry went back to looking at the case before him, but curiosity took him over soon. Draco was buying for someone. His mother? Harry glanced over and saw that the case was almost entirely filled with rings. Diamond rings.

Who was Draco dating? He raised an eyebrow, watching him.

Draco called over the sales woman, and started up a hushed conversation with her about the different rings in the case. He had good taste, for someone who had never purchased jewelry before. The salesgirl was blushing as Draco asked her question after question about what a woman would like to get as an engagement ring.

Harry had a little expertise as he had picked out three in a row (one being stolen, one eaten by the dog, and the third which was on Ginny's finger). He wasn't sure if Draco wanted his help, though. He cleared his throat.

Draco lifted his head and turned to look at Harry. Oh. Potter. Why was he still around? Surely he didn't need as much time to pick out a Valentine's Day gift for his wife as Draco needed to pick out an Engagement Ring.

"Got a cold, Potter?" He asked, though it wasn't as cruel and cold as his old tone.

"That ring you're looking at is too much. It says 'I have a lot of money but no taste,'" Harry thought that if Draco didn't want his help, that criticism didn't sound too much like he was trying to be useful. It was a borderline jab at Draco himself.

"Excuse me?" Draco asked, his eyes narrowing a little with irritation. Though, now he took a second glance, he knew that Harry was right. It was a very expensive ring, though it was too big and flashy for Astoria's delicate fingers.

He gave a little sigh and shook his head, pushing the ring box away. He pointed to another in the case, and was secretly almost hoping that Harry would comment again. Draco was rubbish at this.

"This girl you hope will stoop to marrying you," Harry said, feeling a little scathing. "Tall? Short? Skinny?"

Draco narrowed his eyes and turned his back to Potter once more. "None of your business." He muttered, angrily, and motioned for another ring. He was making his way from the ones he liked the least to the ones he liked the most.

"Well, I'm just saying, the design needs to be proportionate to her hands. If she's real pixie you want to go simple. Spend money on platinum and the clarity of the rock instead of the size."

Harry shrugged and walked back to the case where he had been browsing for Ginny.

Draco cleared his throat and tried his best to picture Astoria's hands. They may have looked delicate, but they were strong. He was rather fond of her hands.

The pale of the platinum wouldn't wash out her skin tone, would it?

Harry looked in a case and found a ruby key necklace he liked. It was over three hundred galleons, but that wasn't really unheard of for Harry, and he figured that it was their first married Valentine's Day...

...of course Ginny hated the holiday. Still, Harry wasn't dumb enough to blow it off.

Draco made his decision, gave Astoria's ring size, and then turned to glance over at what Harry was doing. He was curious, though he wasn't going to push it.

Harry called over one of the employees and asked a few questions. Was it platinum or white gold? For that price he was glad to hear that it was platinum.

"I'll need that wrapped," he said. Harry was rubbish at wrapping.

"Made your decision, then?" Draco drawled, turning around to lean back against the case and watch Harry with the shop girl. At least there were enough in the shop that they could both be served at the same time.

"Rubies for Gryffindor," Harry said. He had considered something yellow gold, but he knew Ginny much preferred white or platinum. He had also bought her emeralds for Holyhead before, but he wasn't going to tell that to Draco. He was sure most of the Slytherin alumnis only wore Emeralds.

"Figures." Draco muttered, though not unkindly. He turned to look at some necklaces in the next case, thinking maybe he should get something for his mother for Valentine's day.

There was a lovely heart-shaped Opal pendant on white gold.

Harry handed over a handful of galleons and received a black paper bag with his wrapped gift an some sickles in change. He pocketed the change and turned for the door.

"Good luck with... whoever she is," Harry said. He had just assumed in his head that it was Pansy. Maybe Pansy would prefer the gaudy ring, just to show off how rich she was.

"Thanks." Draco called out after him. See? They could be civil. They'd never be friends, but at least they didn't want to kill each other all the time.

"And you with your rubies." He said, then turned back to the shop girl.
