WHO: Ginny Potter, Harry Potter, and NPC James Potter WHEN: December 7, 2004 WHERE: Ginny's old house, aka Charlie's new house RATING: PG-13 STATUS: Complete SUMMARY: Harry comes to visit Ginny and James while they are staying with Charlie.
She had decided that it was odd to be back in her old house, and most definitely strange that while it was "her" house that it didn't feel like it anymore. Charlie had been living in it for a while, and aside from the vague piece of furniture that she had left there - the place really didn't look the same. Charlie wasn't the sort to place accessories around (and really, she didn't know any male who would unless they were gay) and his idea of colour was nothing like Ginny's.
Somehow the fact it was so different had done a lot to distance Ginny from her attachment to the house. Even with a lot of memories currently existing as a gaping black whole, she still knew about buying the house and her family helping her renovate it. It was the moving out of it and into the excessively large house her mum had taken her too (because Ginny wasn't sure how to get there by apparating) that was missing.
She had felt a little uncomfortable in that house, which was possibly more worrying to her than the fact she couldn't remember Harry. If she was uncomfortable in the house they lived in, what did that mean about the marriage? From what everyone had said, and from her brief conversations wiht Harry, it seemed they were happy but she had been concerned that maybe everyone had been wrong and Harry was just making the best of the situation to try and minimize Ginny's panic.
She was trying not to think about the negatives of the situation, instead distracting herself by taking care of James and organizing Charlie's house. Ginny was sure he probably didn't appreciate his younger sister going through all of his things but she needed busy work, work which had involved finding the box of Christmas decorations and proceeding to make the house festive. She knew Charlie wasn't in the mindset to do it himself, but even the saddest person could be slightly cheered up by a Christmas tree right?
James was nestled safely in the small bouncy chair that Hermione had given her. It was a muggle contraption, and certainly impressive as the brightly coloured items hanging on a detachable wire would keep him entertained, and the soft material and padding made it comfortable enough that he could easily fall asleep. The buckle would keep James securely in the chair, and the upright angle meant Ginny could keep an eye on him much easier than laying him in the bassinet.
At the moment he was certainly awake, staring with wide eyes at the shapes on the wire, or at Ginny whenever she moved close enough for James to make her out. She was intending on decorating the tree, but hadn't gotten all that much done - which really was no surprise as her productivity tended to take a nose dive when James was awake. He was sort of like a magnet, and she had a very hard time not just sitting on the couch and holding him - even though her mum, Hannah, Andromeda, and Fleur had all told her otherwise.
She was in the middle of winding a line of red garland around the tree when she heard the knock on the door, and all Ginny had to do was turn slightly to look in the window to see who it was - Harry. "It's open." she told him, trapped slightly by the tree, the boxes of decorations, and a baby, getting to the door wasn't going to happen without some acrobatics.
