"Babies kind of 'find' a place that they prefer to sleep. If he's a sound enough sleeper, you could pick him up and hold him after he dozes off, but the actual act of falling asleep should happen where you want him to view as his place to fall asleep. There's a stage where they go from their eyelids starting to droop and they start to almost act a little weak to where they get cranky and a bit too tired to go to sleep. You want to hit that stage between and get them down to sleep then. If you wait too long, they'll have a hard time sleeping. It sounds harder than it is. You'll get the rhythm of it. You can have him in your arms up until that point, but the actual sleep part needs to happen in the crib." And considering that Hannah was an utterly hug-feel-adoration sort, it wasn't like she could even fathom not giving as much attention to a baby as one could. She still loved it when Lucy curled up on her lap and sought her attention. Still, the instant Ginny spluttered, Hannah knew she had to explain what she meant further and do it in a calm voice. "Little dozes and the like aren't really something to fuss over, I think, but when it comes to sleeping for longer naps and during the night, the crib is the place to go. I'm guessing you have a good rocker in the nursery?"
"And of course. Well, if there's any way that the feeling can be helped, let me know? I don't want to spout out a lot of advice and just have you go away feeling dazed. I know it can be a lot to take in. Just trust that you and Harry can do it; having that person to rely on during the first few months is huge."
