where: St. Mungo's
what: After receiving news from the hospital, Oliver flies to his fiance's side.
Augustus Pye.
That name would forever be pasted into the pages of Oliver's memory. It was the name of the man who had written, signed, and sent one of the most important owls Oliver would ever receive in his life.
Margaret had been the one to wake Oliver in the wee hours, bleary eyed and confused. As a retired healer, she could recognise on sight an owl from St. Mungo's, and knew best not to ignore the frantic delivery pecking at her bedroom window.
The letter did not contain much to go on. Just that his presence was requested immediately, indicating that for whatever reason Verity needed him urgently. Tens of scenarios ran collectively through his mind as he dressed quickly in the dark, Margaret sitting by in silent support. The fact that Oliver had very little to say to his mother was proof enough that inside his imagination was getting the best of him.
'Oliver...'
'Don't. Please, mum.'
Margaret stood from the settee, crossed the room and handed Oliver his jacket, which she'd been holding nervously. After all, Verity would soon be her daughter-in-law. 'Give her my best.'
Oliver took his jacket, kissed his mother goodbye, and with a heavy, nervous heart, threw floo powder into the embers of his hearth and stepped into the green flames. 'St. Mungo's. The Dai Llewellyn Ward.'
When Oliver arrived, it was still so incredibly early that the hallways were dark and empty. It did not bode well, and Oliver's anticipation of why Verity would be calling him to St. Mungo's without explanation, and by another's hand, grew perceptively alone in the corridor.
The last time Oliver stood here, his father had been dying.
