Yugioh(mai valentine) [week 1 prompt #1]
Title:Pains of regret
Author:Dani_meows
Rating:PG-13
Warnings:spoilers for waking the dragons arc.
Summary: After it was all said and done Mai thinks about what she has done and regrets it all.
Author's Notes: This was handwritten this morning, so I hope it is alright to submit tonight...as I consider myself still in the challenge.
In the darkness, she shivered with cold despite being bundled tightly in blankets. She kept thinking about them, about Joey, about Valon, about her friends, and about the choices she had made. Mai cuddled further into the blankets still seeking that elusive warmth, as once more her mind replayed that terrible moment when the seal took his soul.
She had chosen to join Dooma, to take souls, had chosen power and lies over friendship. Over a relationship that one day could have been love. She had thrown it all away, including the soul of the only person to ever truly care about her for power.
The battle was over, all of the souls that were taken had rejoined their bodies, not that she'd helped the battle any. He would forgive her if she asked him to. Kaiba had found her and delivered a snide, "Are you sure you don't want to participate in the K.C championship, the mutt is asking about you."
She'd refused to enter that or any other tournaments. She wasn't worthy enough to be a true duelist or to wield her beautiful harpies ladies anymore. Her cards were wrapped in a soft violet cloth, placed gently in a drawer that she refuses to open. She misses them. Misses the thrill of dueling, of winning, but she can't go back. She has no right to ask for forgiveness of her sins, and even though she hasn't asked for forgiveness her cards are the penance that she pays for them.
These days, she didn't eat and barely slept. She wept a lot and her strength was a thing of the past. She was alone but unlike before when loneliness was bearable and she believed in her self and her own strength and didn't need anyone, she no longer believed in herself.
She had lost everything. She wanted it back but she had to much pride to beg for it back. So she had to accept it's loss... she just wasn't sure how to carry on.
