1. everybody wants to rule the world
When Sanada first saw the man who had hired him, his first instinct told him to run and to run fast. Cold ambition shown in the man's eyes and his hands forever wandered to his sword, as if he longed only to draw it and slice his opponents to bloody ribbons of flesh. Why Sanada didn't listen to his instinct, then, he would never understand, but he did not run. Instead, he bowed politely and stood, straight and as proud as he was supposed to be when in front of his new commander.
Lord Yukimura had smiled at him. "So you are my new general?"
"Yes, my lord." Sanada said. He had been hired to 'protect the lands of the Lord Yukimura' but he wasn't a fool. Lord Yukimura had come to listen to his evaluation of the battle of Seigaku and he knew that Sanada was the best strategic general in this generation. Not to mention that blind ambition such as Yukimura's would never be sated by merely protecting what he already had and the army that he had already assembled would have been obvious even to a blind and deaf peasant.
"Have I bought your service or your loyalty?" Yukimura asked, his voice calm and almost teasing.
It took a moment for Sanada to register what he had said. "As long as you have my service, you have my loyalty." He answered, giving the answer that they had all been taught for years on end.
Yukimura looked at him for a moment then nodded. "I will always take what I want."
Sanada looked at him, confused, and then took the liberty of asking, "Is that a warning or a promise?"
Yukimura laughed, clear and resounding. "A bit of both, I suppose."
Sanada nodded, slowly. "I'll take the promise."
