Final Fantasy XII (Vossler->Ashe) [week 1, prompt 4]
Title: His Queen
Author: Laylah
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers through the events after Raithwall's Tomb.
Word Count: 200
Summary: This is not the method he would choose.
This is not the method he would choose. Vossler parries the lunge of the ragoh, and smashes it before it can gather magick to cast against Ashe.
Her skill with the blade is improving. She will be a warrior queen as much as a peace-bringer, heir to Raithwall's legacy, not only his blood. She will be his queen, and when they have Rabanastre they will drive the Empire from it. She would have it the other way -- beautiful, terrible Ashe, who hews the seekers from the air when they are drawn to her warmth. She would destroy all who stand against them, and return in triumph.
Below, one of the pirates has found a door hidden in the tomb wall. Ashe lopes down the stairs, and Vossler follows. Ghis thinks to buy his loyalty by offering to make him hers. It would be laughable were the stakes not so high: he is hers, in breath and blood and bone, and to wed her will be only one more oath confirming that.
She will be angry, he knows, when she learns the terms of her restoration. But when she calms, she will see the advantage in it.
He has faith.
