RP: Memory All Alone in the Moonlight
Who: Snape, poking Lily
Where: Their room
When: Valentine's Day, early evening?
Rating: PG-13ish
Summary: Severus bought Lily a Valentine's day gift. He just can't remember what he did with it.

He had torn apart nearly the entire room by this point, and he didn't think that he had ever been more frustrated in his entire life. It was Valentine's Day. The calendar, the journals, his stupid little muggle phone thing, everything kept reminding him that it was Valentine's Day. And he'd bought Lily something. He knew he had. One, because he wouldn't forget something like that, and two because... because he'd written himself a note to tell himself that he'd bought something for her.

He'd hidden it, of course, probably somewhere he'd think to look later. Obviously, he hadn't included that information in his note, likely out of fear that Lily would see it, but now he had torn the room apart and been completely unable to find it.

He cursed this condition. The hospital had said there was nothing they could do for him, and though he and Lily were brewing various potions, it seemed there was little to be done but wait for his brain to reconnect to perform the functions it needed to in order to transfer short term memory to long term. Other than that, he would have to get used to it for now.

Sinking down into the strewn bed, he put his head in his hands in frustration, doing his best to get his thoughts in order.

Lily had not been hiding in the kitchen with Susan. They'd been baking. Cookies and cakes and they'd even tried their hand at fudge, though that had been disastrous.

She'd heard Severus tearing apart the room, and so she'd stayed down in the kitchen with Susan under the pretense of waiting for Caspian to come back from the barn. With all the snow, there was a little extra work - keeping the pipes from freezing and making sure the water buckets didn't freeze over. With Ashley out of commission, she thought she'd heard something about Caspian even doing simple office chores, but maybe that had simply been speculation.

Eventually though, it became fairly obvious that she was ... well, avoiding Severus, if not exactly hiding in the kitchen. With a 'here goes nothing' glance to Susan, Lily retreated to the bedroom she shared with Severus.

She hesitated in the doorway, and decided not to point out they could have borrowed Jaime's talents. Mostly because she didn't want to state the obvious ... but also because it was Valentine's day, and she could only imagine what Jaime and Mal were getting up to. "Is ... everything all right, love?"

He glanced up almost fearfully when he heard the door, and he flushed red, trying to force a smile but he was too frustrated to. Giving it up for dead, he waved his wand to get rid of the worst of the mess, mostly moving things to the side and some of the bigger things back into place. "Everything's fine," he muttered. "If you count the fact that I can barely remember anything that has happened since I returned from hell."

He ran his fingers through his hair with a heavy sigh before crossing over to her, trying - and this time succeeding a bit better - at forcing a smile. "I'm... sorry, love. It's... Valentine's Day? And I should be being more... attentive. I shouldn't be continuing to... foolishly rant about this memory issue. I should be leaving it alone."

Though that was easier said than done.

"You wouldn't be you if you left it alone," she pointed out softly. When he approached her, she lifted her hands, running them slowly down his chest. "It'll come back to you," she whispered as she stretched up to press her lips against his mouth.

"Besides, it's just a day."

Easing her arms around him, she rested her head lightly against his chest, simply listening to his heart beat. She really didn't know exactly how to act around him while he was like this, and it really was difficult to cope with. It was worse for him, she knew, but she was sure she wasn't making it any easier.

"Have the doctors said anything else about ... treatments, or when you might ... recover?"
