RP: Good Morning, Starshine
Who: Snape, open
Where: Hospital
When: February 9, 2010
Rating/Warning: I don't anticipate higher than PG-13
Summary: Snape wakes up from his coma.
Status: Limited, ongoing

He wasn't sure, what, exactly, had occurred. He knew that time had passed and the idiotic demons of the other dimension had gotten enough brain cells to rub together and had been less than distracted when they'd gone by their old standbys. There had been more than a few injuries shared around, food had gotten scarce, water had gotten scarce, poison... it all kind of blurred together in his head, and turned into one big, black, lump.

He wasn't sure if he remembered being rescued, or if he'd dreamt it, but he wasn't all that surprised as his eyes opened slowly and were assaulted with the white that he'd come to associate with Muggle fluorescent lighting. He blinked several times over, and exhaled sharply in a wince.

He did wonder what exactly had happened, but he didn't think that he wanted to know. He did want to know if everyone else was okay. He felt sore, and broken in places, and he imagined that the others weren't all that much better off.

While she hadn't been spending every waking moment with him, it was a close thing. James had dragged her away a few times to sleep and eat, and Lily had started to perfect the art of eating while half-asleep, even in the short time he'd been ... like this.

Everyone had come back with varying degrees of injuries. Ashley she knew was still confined to a bed, but at least she'd been allowed to go home, with Corey to look out for her. Despite Lily's promises that she could look after Sev, they'd kept him here.

She had to admit it was probably for the best; she wasn't actually a healer. But still, she would have preferred him home. Susan was home and Caspian got to see her ...

... and she knew she was just being petulant.

The exhalation caught her attention, worming into her thoughts as she stared out the window at the falling snow. It was louder than the ticking of the ice against the glass, and she swept her emerald eyes toward him. A faint smile edged her lips. "Welcome back," she said softly before she rose from the chair, stepping slowly over to him. Slender fingers stroked lightly over his hair as she gazed down at him. "How're you feeling?" she whispered, uncertain he could even speak yet.

The voice sounded familiar and significant enough that though he couldn't place it right away, he made the effort to get his eyes open again, so that he could see who it was. He blinked several times, stared at the white, and then saw red. His mind and heart jumped somewhere ahead of his brain, and his pulse speed up as he swallowed, searching for the words to use.

"Lily..." he moved to lift a hand, to caress her face. She was all right. She hadn't been in hell, she had been safely here, and he'd been returned to her. There were no feelings to describe his current feelings. His arms felt like lead, though, so he couldn't lift them far.

He was... vaguely aware there was a question he was supposed to be answering, but he honestly couldn't remember what it was. Either that, or he couldn't process it.

"Shh," she breathed. "Don't ... it's all right." She cupped his cheek softly, her thumb brushing against his lower lip. "Can I get you anything, love? They've said you're allowed to have ice chips and a bit of water ... should I get your doctor?"

She bit her lip; she should probably ... back off with the questions. She was just pleased to see him awake and coherent. Mostly coherent. Forming words.

"I'm here, love. I'm here." Her fingertips continued their gentle dance over his hair as she gazed at him, searching his eyes to see if she could tell how he was doing.

He closed his eyes again - it was still too bright. He was happy enough knowing she was all right.

"Are we back?" he murmured quietly. "We were concerned that you may have sealed the portals... we found what looked like one, but we couldn't... get it open..."

She may have said. Or maybe he may have known. He was having trouble putting pieces together right now - likely a result of just waking up. Or had he... been up for a while?

"You're ... back in Ipswich," she assured him, uncertain if he meant back as in back to England, or back as in back here. "You're out of hell though," she continued. She'd never seen anyone come out of a coma before, so she wasn't sure if this was ... normal or not.

But of course he'd be disoriented, given what he'd been through.

Leaning in, she pressed a soft kiss to his forehead, reached down to twine her fingers through his. "Everyone's out," she continued. "Ashley was ... among the worst off. There were a few broken limbs, scratches, bruises. Lots of nightmares, no doubt. Some ... that I'm sure we don't know about. A lot of people took off instead of coming to the hospital. One of the vampires had ... a detached limb."

She stroked his hair with her free hand, gazing at his face. "I probably shouldn't keep you up. I ... do you want me to stay a bit, or get your doctor?"

"Stay," he mumbled, not sure if the word made it out of his mind, but it was certainly prevalent there. He gripped her fingers more tightly when he felt her entwining them with his and let his eyes closes.

"I'm sorry, I just..." he murmured. "I'm glad everyone is all right. Lily Luna? She was...?" he didn't finish the question. Everything had gotten really foggy towards the end when demons had massively attacked. He was pretty sure that - if rescue had actually come - they were just in time.

"We were concerned you had sealed the portals," he repeated, having forgotten that he had just said that a moment earlier. "We tried... to break through."

He frowned a bit, reaching up a heavy hand to feel his throat. "I... am I allowed water?"

Lily watched him, feeling slightly uneasy. She tried to assure herself this was simply after effects of coming out of a coma, and that he'd be fine in a day or so. "Yes," she said softly as she picked up one of the plastic cups, tipping in a little ice water. "Not much though, until your doctor sees you," she admonished.

Feathering his hair back, she remained prepared to assist him with drinking if he required it. "There's some ice chips if you'd rather have that. And Lily Luna's fine." More or less fine, anyway. Physically fine. Perhaps a bit emotionally scarred.

"We didn't do anything to the portals," she said. "Caleb and Chase did, but they opened them back up as soon as River and Kyle figured out where you were."

"River and Kyle?" that was confusing, and unexpected. He frowned. "You're certain? That seems... odd."

Though he supposed it wasn't the only thing that was unexpected right now. He was having the hardest time... keeping things straight. And he was starting to think it might be more than just general waking-up fog.

He was able to lift the cup and sip, and didn't spill more than a few drops, though he did manage to open his eyes to regard Lily curiously. He did not like her expression.

"Is there something..." he frowned, not sure what he'd been thinking to ask. "You look... is there something you're not telling me? Did someone... not make it?" It was the only thing he could think of at the moment.

"I'm certain," she said. "I don't know how they worked it out, exactly, but River wrote to Caleb, and ... they reopened everything after they recruited Jaime to find everyone."

Lily shook her head slightly at his question. "No ... just. Nothing." She leaned in and pressed her lips softly to his cheek. "I think I should go let someone know you're awake. They can get you sorted out." She stroked his hair. "I promise, everyone came out alive."

She was disinclined to get into pointing out that she was worried about him because he didn't seem quite right to her. But she was still mostly convinced it was just ... after effects of a coma, and unless the doctor said something was off, she would continue to believe that.

He squeezed her hand. He didn't really want her to go. He was confused, and he had missed her so much while he'd been stuck in hell, never sure if he would see her again. There was a part of him that was concerned that this was a dream that would fade away if she walked out of his line of vision. It certainly felt like he was dreaming.

"Is there a way you can let them know without leaving?" he mumbled. Though he supposed he would have to deal with it if there wasn't.

"I'm not sure," she murmured. She really was nervous, the way he was acting. If she had more of a medical background, she might be less worried because she would know what to expect, what was wrong, but ... she didn't.

Pressing her lips softly to his, she smiled as she drew back from the kiss. "I love you," she murmured before she drew away. "I'll go find someone for you, and ... see about getting you home."

Home, such as it was, at any rate.
