RP: Leah's Arrival
Who: Leah Clearwater and OPEN
Where: Putnam Barn
When: Late Night, January 27, 2010
Rating/Warning: None.
Summary: Leah's arrival.
Status: Open, ongoing

She was just standing there, in a barn, that she had never seen before. It was a bit cold, but nothing she couldn't handle, she just noticed it was colder than the city she had been in previously. Ok this is differnt, she thought as she took her first few steps toward the door. She then noticed the phone in her pocket and pulled it out. As she did so, a credit card fell to the ground as if it had jumped out of her pocket. She leaned down to pick it up, examining it closely. It had her name on it, but she didn't have a credit card. She put it back in her pockt and focused on the phone as she walked through the doors and out into what looked like a forest. That was definitely not where she had been, and she wanted to know where she was. Her body started shaking, and she knew if she was not able to control herself, she would phase, and then she wouldn't have any clothes at all to go through town and figure out where she was, so she took a few deep breaths, and eventually calmed herself.

Reid was sort of bored which meant he was sort of prowling and doing the "good deeds" that Caleb encouraged them to do. Like swing down by the field in case people couldn't figure out the phone or couldn't find their way into town.

It had happened more than once, after all. So had people showing up naked. Reid was holding onto the hope that he'd be lucky enough to come across a naked chick some day. He could still look, after all.

Well, the chick wasn't naked, but it was a chick, which was something. Slowing the car down, he braked and rolled the window down. "Hey," he called out. "Need some help?"

Leah could hear the car before she saw it, and actually walked toward where she knew it would be, only because she needed to know where she was, and she knew she could handle herself if she needed to. The window rolled down to reveal a guy not much older than she was, so she calmed a little, though she was still on edge a bit. She knew appearances could be deceiving. "Yeah. You can help. Where the Hell am I?" The bite and disdain clear behind her voice. She hated not knowing where she was or how she got there.

He knew he should behave. He knew he was supposed to behave. He also knew that people coming in sometimes had ... powers. To do things. He really didn't want to be taken by surprise by someone's random powers, and despite thinking this ... when he parted his lips, the following words spilled out.

"Funny you should use that phrasing ..." Reid said, blue eyes gleaming wickedly before he shook his head and attempted to wave it off. No, there was no need to get into that, now. Not with a newcomer. And given the tone, he was going to guess she was a brand-newcomer.

"Sorry," he muttered as he ducked his head slightly. "You're in Ipswich. Massachusetts. United States of America. Earth." He really did have to cover all the bases; there was (or had been) someone from another planet. "Going to guess you just showed up in the barn? Not from around here?"

Leah didn't like this one bit. This guy seemed to know a lot about how she had arrived, and to Leah, that could only mean one thing. Before she knew it, her instincts had taken over and her arm had shot through the window of the car and was holding the man's neck clean against the seat he was sitting in. Her strength showing as a low, animal growl came from the bottom of her throat. "And how would you know so much about it?" She spoke through her teeth this time, trying her hardest to keep control, but knowing if she needed to, she could phase in a moment.

Okay. Magic he'd kind of been prepped for. He was sort of after a wand to be drawn or some other sort of warning aside from a hand through his window. Reflex raised his power, leery as he was about using so close to the gate. He, however, was not going to choke to death here because some displaced individual had taken it upon herself to be violent with him.

"Easy," he said, his voice tight as he shifted around until he could grab her arm, trying to force it away - using his magic if need be.

So, not a magic user, but he was going to guess something supernatural all the same. Mutant? Vampire? Werewolf? He was going to ax vampire because of the lack of sparkle, but hell, it was night so maybe it just wasn't showing up.

"Listen, I live here," Reid said. "We've been dealing with people falling through for two months now." More or less. Give or take.

Someone who could move her hand away when she was using her strength? This was new. He wasn't a vampire. He didn't smell like one. He wasn't a werewolf or shapeshifter, because that scent wasn't there either. So how could he do that? Then his eyes flashed, which she had never seen before. The anger at her advance being met and the fear of something she hadn't seen before started building inside her once more as her entire body started shaking. She couldn't phase in front of this man, then he would know exactly what she was, and she had to keep the slightest of upper ground, so she decided to focus on what he was saying. Through the tremor, she spoke, trying to understand. "falling through?" That was all she could get out, the shaking getting more and more as the moments went on.

Reid nodded, rubbing at his throat. "Being sucked in. We're not real sure what sort of terminology to use. Someone managed to rift time and reality, so we've been having people showing up from all sorts of times and places. Lots of wizards and witches and some mutants and vampires and werewolves. Things that sparkle."

He decided, for now, not to mention the hell things. Caleb had hinted that he and Chase were going to try to fix the hell-hole on Friday, despite protests from the others. Mostly, Reid didn't want to miss out, but beyond that ... he didn't want Caleb and Chase alone using magic. Especially not here. His jaw clenched at the thought before he pushed it away - now was not the time for those thoughts.

"Listen, they have places ... houses for you guys. Hotels if you're not keen on sharing residences with someone else ... I can take you somewhere. Somewhere warmer than this," he said with a nod toward the world outside the car.

She heard most of what he had said, but what her mind stuck on was the part about vampires and the little bit he added on the end about things that sparkle, and before she could stop herself, "Cullens" had come out of her mouth for lack of a filter there. It was soft, and whispered, but she said it nonetheless.

She was starting to calm and her body was not shaking any more. Even if she wanted to deny it, if the Cullens were here, she had someone she could really pump for information about this place. She'd just have to suffer through the smell for a while. "The cold doesn't bother me. She was only wearing a pair or cut-off jeans and an oversized short sleeved shirt, but being a shapeshifter, the cold wasn't really an issue. "Can you take me to one of the houses." She didn't mind staying with other people, especially if they were special in they're own ways. She wouldn't have to hide.

Reid shrugged. That sounded kind of familiar to him, for all the attention he paid to the new people. "Sure," he agreed with a lopsided grin.

He nodded slowly. "Sure, again. I ... have no idea which ones have open bedrooms, but we can knock on doors until we find a place to fit you in."

Popping the lock on the passenger side door, Reid jerked his head toward the passenger seat. "So, get in and we'll drive around town until we find something useful."

He really did try to think, but it wasn't like anyone but the government had a residents list. He'd just have to guess. Or actually pull the knocking on doors thing. Or call Caleb. Caleb might be paying more attention to this end of things than he was.

She raised eyebrow at him and was still very unsure about going anywhere with him, for all she knew, even in wolf form, he could fend her off. She got in the car, though, against her better judgement, thinking if he could have hurt her, he would have by now. She still was not going to allow herself to take her eyes off him though, just in case she needed to defend herself. "Ok, Herc, Where to?" She didn't know what else to think about the fact he was strong enough to remove her hand from his throat.

Herc. Reid snorted, and almost pointed out she knew his name, but maybe he'd missed the whole introduction thing because of the whole choking thing.

"Reid," he said. "Reid Garwin. You have a name?" He lifted his brows slightly. He assumed so, but 'what's your name' had always sounded silly to him. So he'd found other ways to ask.

Once she was in and settled, he u-turned the car to start heading toward the set of houses that the government had allocated for the drop-throughs. Some were emptier than others, but he figured he'd just go with the first one that had an open room.

Still looking at him, she noticed he wasn't clearly asking for her name, just assuming she would tell it to him after that, which, wasn't the best thing to do in her mind. She decided to play a little bit of game with this guy. He offered his name so quickly, but she had no idea if it was his name or not. "And what makes you think you've earned the right to know it?"

Reid laughed. Oh, man. Why did he get all the difficult ones? This was definitely a Caleb-case. He knew they were supposed to be cutting the new arrivals some slack, and it couldn't be easy to be displaced and blah blah, but Reid just wasn't the tactful and soft sort.

"Because we have to fit everyone with nametags when they show up. Government rules," he said with a helpless shrug of his shoulders as he steered the car toward the side road the houses were on.

At least they were close to the barn so he didn't have to deal with the difficult ones for long.

When she heard that statement about nametags come out of his mouth, she knew that kind of dry tone. She used if often. She didn't think he was telling the truth, and even if he was, she wasn't about to wear a nametag. That wasn't the way she went about things. People got to know her name when she let them, not any other way. She then put on her fake girly girl voice that only came out when she was making fun of something, "Oh realy? And do they come with matching jumpsuits that belong to Area 51 and everything?" She put her hands to her face as if she was excited and happy about it, and a moment later, her face was back to frown and furrowed eyebrows it had been before. "Seriously? You think I was going to believe that?"

He laughed quietly. Jumpsuits. Now there was an idea. "No, but we should invest in that. Tell you guys apart from the people that live here ..."

No, he wouldn't really do that, but the idea was intriguing. He might propose it to Rory just for kicks.

"Nah. Didn't think you'd buy it," he admitted as he pulled into the driveway of the first house on the road. He had no idea who lived in it, aside from the fact they were displacees. Or whatever they were calling them. He gestured toward the house once he'd put the car in park. "Need someone to hold you hand while you knock on the door and see if they have a room?"

She lifted her eyebrows and gave a fake smile to him as she turned her head toward the door to the house. She didn't say a word to him though, just opened the door to the car and got out. She leaned back down into the car for a second before she would quickly close the door and head up to the door. "It's Leah, by the way. Just in case you were wondering."

He did kind of wonder if Caleb was going to give him shit if he took off, so he figured the least he could do was wait to make sure someone was around to let her in.

With a grin and a flash of immaturity - he had it in spades, after all - Reid honked the horn a few times.

Only when he saw someone opening the door did he start to back the car out of the driveway. He thought he'd head home and skip another swing by the field. Let Caleb deal with whoever came through next.

Libra had heard the honk, and she sort of waited for someone else to get the door before she realized she was the only one around. Vulture hadn't come back from lunch. Aaron was at work, and Scar was - as far as she knew - out on patrol.

She was really nervous that Vulture hadn't come back yet. Had one of the hell-things killed him?

With one hand on her wand, hidden in her sleeve, Libra drew the door open and peered outside, squinting against the darkness.

Leah was reserved enough not to look back at the car as Reid honked at the house in front of her. This place and its people would take some getting used to. That was for sure. She saw the door open before she had even gotten to the door, and saw a girl through it. "Hello. I just came through the gates of hell, apparently. Dumbass in the car told me to ask if you guys had an extra bed."

Libra's mouth opened a couple of times as she tried to dredge up a response to that. Technically, she guessed they had two rooms, but she wasn't convinced Vulture wasn't coming back. He was just ... out. Getting drunk, or catching criminals or something.

Shaking her head, she nodded mutely as she stepped back, glancing out the door to watch the car retreating.

"There's ... an empty room. Top of the stairs and to the left," she continued. Her fingers tightened a little around her wand as she tried not to freak out. There was nothing to freak out about. People showed up all the time.

"I'm Libra," she added, her brow furrowing slightly.

Leah could see the girl seemed a bit on edge, but she couldn't blame her, she was too. She stepped in the door, eager to get to a bed. The anger running through her had expended a lot of her anger keeping control of her wolf side. "Leah. thanks." She took a few steps away from the girl and toward the stairs, but then decided she should be friendly, maybe put the girl at ease. "Sorry. I still don't know what's going on here."

"No one really knows. Not for sure. Just ... the witches that live here? They were trying to fix it, but kind of made it worse instead. Which is why there are gargoyles and imps and hell things running around outside now."

Well, not right that second but for the past few weeks, they had been. "I don't know if they plan to try to fix it again ..." Libra shrugged, her brow furrowing. "There ... um. Did you want me to ... to show you around? There're other people that live here, but one's been ... well he should've been home a while ago, and wasn't, and the other two are out."

So this place was full of people that would have to hide who they were back home, and she didn't have to. That actually made her happy for a change. So few things did, but being able to be herself without fear was a very good thing. "Sounds like I have something to hunt, if I feel the need." Which she probably would. She couldn't let imps and hell things hurt people. She was a protector, and that was what she did.

"No. That's ok. I'll go exploring tomorrow, but right now, I really just want to pass out" Then she heard the part about the other people that should have been home already. "You seem worried. Do you want to go out looking? I may be new here, but I can fight with the best of 'em."

"A lot of people ... are. Hunting. One of my housemates probably is right now." She wanted to hope Vulture was, too, but he always checked in ...

Shaking out of her thoughts, she studied Leah curiously. "What ... what are you? I mean, I know that sounds rude. I'm a witch," she offered. "The ... wand sort, not the other sort," she clarified.

There were, after all, a lot of other sorts.

Libra shook her head and offered Leah a smile. "No. Someone should hold down the fort for when they come back."

Leah nodded, she probably shouldn't be too mouthy right off with this girl. She seemed stressed enough as it was without adding a psycho new housemate to the mix. Then she came right out and said what she was and Leah's eyes widened, she'd never seen a witch before. She had only seen vampires, and they were enough trouble. "A witch? I guess I'm a shapeshifter. We thought we were werewolves until we found out we weren't. We turn into wolves. Massive wolves." She might be at her best when she was a wolf, but the reflexes and strength showed through sometimes even when she was in human form. The only downside being if she patrolled too much she had to sleep, a lot.

Libra nodded, neither put off nor truly surprised. It wasn't as though she'd be the first werewolf Libra had ever met. She went to school with one, after all. She supposed a shapeshifter wasn't so different from an animagus. Or a metamorphmagus.

"Then you should be good for the hunting. Just make sure they don't hunt you." A wry smile pulled at her lips before she sort of gestured around. "So if you wanted to ... just ... um. Relax or wander around or ... whatever, I can quit bothering you."

A slight smile tugged at her lips as she nodded her head. "It's ... disconcerting at first." She couldn't honestly remember if she was drained on arrival, but the first few days were such a blur anyway.

"So, right, if you wanted, I could ... show you which room wasn't used ..." None of the rooms looked overly lived in, and she wouldn't want Leah crashing in Vulture or Scar's room by mistake.

Leah turned her head toward the stairs and then back toward Libra. She really wanted to see which room was hers so she could pass out, but she didn't want to leave this girl if she didn't want to be alone either. Leah wasn't used to being around girls. The pack were her main contact when she was in high school. She wasn't quite sure how to act. "That would be cool."

Libra nodded and glanced to the door. Biting lightly at her lower lip, she flicked her wand a few times to set some wards. Just in case something undesirable tried to come in, so she'd be aware.

Or if Vulture came home. Or either of the others.

Gesturing for Leah to follow her, Libra started up the stairs to the room farthest back on the left. "This one," she said as she flipped the light on.
