RP: Days Off
Who: Jaime, James, Dug, Mal, Sirius
Where: Their house
When: Late afternoon, January 24, 2010
Rating/Warning: Smut once Mal shows up
Summary: Jaime and James are chillin' and watching movies
Status: Complete

Jaime was stretched out on the couch, her head resting on James' thigh. Her eyes were half-closed, but she was listening to the TV, which was the important part. Or the annoying part, since James was so fascinated with randomly changing the channel.

At one point, she'd stolen the remote and shoved it down her shirt, assuming he wouldn't go after it. She forgot he had a wand and she'd very nearly gotten a bruise on her chin when the remote came zipping out of her shirt.

She was not amused - James found it hysterical.

So she'd given up on trying to put a stop to his remote flippery and just ... chilled while they waited for Sirius to come back in from tinkering with his bike, or someone else to interrupt the otherwise peaceful afternoon.

Deciding he was done fixing up his bike for the moment, and curious about what James was up to, Sirius decided to return to the house. Personally, he thought he should be able to work on his bike in the living room, but he supposed it was better outside. Dug might pee on it or something in protest if he left it inside.

Shifting into a big black dog once he let himself in, he padded into the living room and glanced curiously between the couch Jaime and James were on and the television.

He chuffed and then jumped up onto the couch, on top of Jaime, though he was careful not to squish her, for the most part. Wagging his tail, he acted as if he was going to settle down contently on top of her. Who said big dogs couldn't be lap dogs also?

"Uff," Jaime grunted as the dog jumped onto her. "For the love of fuck, James, control your dog," she grumbled as she pushed at Sirius' chest. Well, she assumed it was Sirius. People wouldn't be letting random stray dogs in, right? Right.

"God, you smell like a garage," she said. At least he didn't smell like wet dog, so she supposed that was a plus?

James laughed as Sirius jumped on the couch to join them. "I know, mate. She does take up a lot of room, doesn't she?" he teased as he reached out to ruffle the fur atop Sirius' head. "Didn't think you were ever going to get in here. Starting to think you love that bike more than you love me," James added with a cute pout.

"Oh hell. If you guys are going to start in on that ..."

Jaime was proving to be excellent company and seemed to rile up quite nicely. It was sort of like having an Evans around who wasn't in love with James. A definite improvement.

After shifting back into a man, he grinned down at her, "This better, then?" He waggled his brows before he pushed himself off her and the couch. There were only a few grease splotches on his arms and t-shirt, but his clothing was dark and he wasn't overly concerned.

Settling next to James, or on the arm of the couch next to him if there wasn't room, he slung an arm around his mate's shoulder and shook his head. "Anyway, you know that's rubbish. You're much better looking and my bike doesn't cuddle with me when I've finished revving her up."

She rolled her eyes. "Well, at least I don't have to worry about you slobbering all over me this way," she said. "And I'm not moving, so you can just get that idea right out of your head," she added.

As much as she might grumble, she really did think it was neat that they could turn back and forth into animals. Granted, she could one-up them if they ever lost something ...

"Should I be disturbed that you've sort of implied I'm a her?" James inquired before he reached up to tug at a lock of Sirius' floppy hair. "I mean, you rev me up too," he added with a waggle of his brows.

And then he laughed as Jaime made gagging noises.

Sirius put on his thinking face, considering James' question, and managing to keep his expression thoughtful even as Jaime and his mate laughed. "Well, I wasn't intending to imply that mate. I just meant the bike is a her. We'll let Jaime decide. Did I just call James a bird and should he be disturbed?"

He did grin and let one of his hands rub James' shoulder and the back of his neck. He was aware, of course, that he shouldn't outright grope James right in front of Jaime, but it was difficult to keep his hands off the other man.

He was still vaguely paranoid that one morning he would wake up and be back in his cell; he had to make good use of the time they had now.

"Pretty sure you did, yeah," Jaime agreed. Hey, it might not have been much in the way of payback for him jumping on her, but it was something, right? "You should be disturbed, James. Deeply and profoundly so."

James grinned and arched his brows at Sirius before he shrugged. "Right, well, if you've decided you're into birds, guess I should just go beg Evans, see if she'll have me back," he said with a dramatic sigh. "You'd help me get Sniv out of the picture though, right? I mean, it's the least you could do after breaking my heart."

He grinned up to his mate, winking behind his glasses before he tipped his chin up slightly to invite Sirius' in for a brief kiss. Because of course they wouldn't be doing anything affectionate in front of Jaime.

"Mate, she's been contaminated," he shook his head solemnly. "I'll help you get Sniv out of the picture, but I don't support you getting Evans back. She probably smells like a slimy git now. Think you'll just have to stay with me. We can find you a pretty dress and solve this whole problem."

His hand slid up the nape of James' neck, gripping his hair gently as he leaned down to take the offered kiss. He did manage to keep it brief, but there was nothing chaste at all about it and he was grinning as he lifted his head once more.

Jaime rolled her eyes as she listened to them, and she glanced up as she felt James shifting and stretching up. "Oh, god, you guys. Can't you have a little consideration for everyone else in the house who isn't getting any?"

James closed his eyes as he returned Sirius' kiss, flicking his tongue against his mate's lips as Sirius broke the kiss to draw away. "You're the one who said you weren't moving," James pointed out to Jaime. "And being as your head is in my lap, I can't exactly move," he continued with a grin.

"And mate, I'm not wearing a dress," he said to Sirius. "I'll go for a skirt and blouse number, but I draw the line at dresses." He opted not to comment about Lily and the git, because occasionally it still stung. Even if they were both better off with who they were with now ... it was still very, very not right that she'd gone to Severus' bed.

Very not right at all.

"Con... consideration ... this sounds vaguely familiar, but I can't quite place it," he feigned confusion before he shook his head, "So I'm going to guess that I cannot muster up any, no."

Trying to picture James in a skirt and blouse, he snorted a laugh and shook his head. "On second thought, mate, you should just stick to being a bloke, preferably naked." He wondered if he could get James excited while Jaime's head was on his lap and if she'd move then, but for the moment decided not to pursue it.

"Do you want us to help you find a bloke, then? We have excellent taste. We'll have you getting some in no time," he assured her helpfully as his fingers played in James' hair.

She snorted. "Why am I not surprised," she quipped in response to Sirius' admission he wasn't considerate. "And no, no need to help me find someone." Because if they found someone, she'd just fuck it up anyway.

While she'd been toying with the idea of getting in touch with Eddie again, she kept thinking better of it ... though as time rolled on, she was finding fewer and fewer reasons not to. He was here, passing through, and he probably wouldn't say no to a good hard fuck ... and she doubted there'd be any strings involved.

"Being a naked bloke," James repeated slowly. "Think that's something best managed in the privacy of our bedroom. Or a shower, yeah? Think you could use one, mate."

James grinned and nudged Jaime's head out of the way so he could start to work himself off the couch. As much as he appreciated Jaime and the TV, he hadn't seen his mate in
hours and was inclined to spend some quality time with him.

Sirius glanced down at himself, but certainly wasn't going to argue a shower if James was offering to take one with him ... or even if he was just going to be naked in bed waiting for him when he got out. "Suppose you're right. Someone said I smell like a garage."

He didn't think it was a bad smell, really, but again, not arguing.

Pushing up to his feet, he stretched his arms above his head and glanced down at James with a grin. "C'mon, then. You know how that shower gives me trouble."

"You do." She said with an arched brow. "You smell like oil and possibly sweat." With James off the couch, Jaime readjusted herself and sighed slightly. This, of course, left her vulnerable to invasions of the Mal variety, but she was tired of camping out in her room when she wasn't at work.

"Suppose that seals it, mate," James said with a soft laugh as he slipped an arm around Sirius' waist to head with him toward the shower. They could get cleaned up, then get all sweaty again, and have to have another shower.

Or pass out in bed. Whichever came first.

Mal wasn't sure if he'd be more comfortable with Dug following him around if Dug was an actual dog to be honest. He was pretty sure half of the unnerving was the person aspect. As the critter, he could wrap his head around it a bit better, but a full grown human wandering around and acting... pretty much like a child was just a bit too much for him, Master or no.

He slid the door to the house open, and Dug darted past him excitedly. Mal swore he still hadn't quite figured out that he could open up doors yet, because it seemed every time he opened one, Dug raced through it. Pinching his nose, he moved into the house and saw Jaime sitting on the couch.

He swallowed heavily, before he decided that he would have to face this sooner or later, and that continuing to prolong the awkward wasn't helping anyone, so he moved toward her, pasting a smile on his face.

"Hey," he bit back a darling. Maybe it wasn't appropriate anymore. Maybe it would do nothing more than get him into trouble. "What're you upto?"

Jaime gestured to the TV at Mal's question. She'd stuck it on some animated movie with talking ponies that was probably funnier to her than it should be. "Reliving my childhood," she replied before she tipped her head back to the hall. "James and Sirius are probably in the shower if you were thinking about heading up that way."

Well, it was polite to warn him, wasn't it, that the main bathroom was occupied? And to kind of be amused if he reacted to the pair of them showering together. Not that it was exactly uncommon anymore, but it still made her grin.

She did wonder where Dug had gone off to, but maybe he was looking for the squirrel again. "What're you up to?" she replied without actually turning her attention from the TV.

His expression took on one of great displeasure - because of the public displays that the boys took, and their lack of concern with locking doors more than the fact that it was two boys kissing. He really could care less about that part. "Ai-yah. Tyen-ah, have they got no shame?" he muttered before starting to ease into one of the chairs near the couch.

He got a sudden flash of a similiar situation where they'd been sitting like that, and changed his mind, moving to sit on the arm of the couch instead. Closer to her, sure, but maybe that would help to dissolve some of the awkward tension.

"Not up'ta much," he said with a roll of his shoulders. "Dug has taken t'huntin' squirrels now - reckon we got lil'Lily t'thank fer that one. He seems t'think that he can catch another one. Reckon she helped him more'n he knows with the first, but it don't seem to stop him."

It was barely detectable, but there was a small note of affection in Mal's voice.

"You been sittin' in here all day?" he asked. "Y'know, if y'wanted to go out, m'sure one of the boys'd be happy t'escort you, so's you don't have t'deal with any of them monster folk running around."

"Pretty sure they're missing their shame gene," Jaime agreed. She tipped her head back as he moved closer, but didn't say anything about it. She was growing increasingly preoccupied with how to fix them; unfortunately, that wasn't an area in which she had much practice. Or any, really. She avoided things like that, not encouraged them.

"If he brings another one into the house, there shall be words," Jaime threatened. Oddly, she couldn't decide if a dead or a live squirrel was worse. Weren't squirrels destructive? But the dead ones wound up in people's beds.

She shrugged to his question. "No. I was at work earlier and just crashed here to keep James company while Sirius was working on his bike. But they're gone so now I'm all alone. Except not, because now you're here. It's like a cycle of guys."

He rubbed his face to hide the smirk. "Don't know that he can catch one on his own, so I wouldn't worry," the 'darlin' caught on his tongue, and he smiled a little bit instead, turning his head to stare at the TV, but he didn't really focus on it. He mostly just saw colours.

"Suppose I could head out if y'wanted," he said, moving as though he was trying to get up - but it was probably obvious that he was just kidding. "Could go find Neytiri if you was lookin' for some girl company? Or I could send a note t'Kaylee if y'wanted somebody else," he wondered if she still didn't like Neytiri very much, or if she'd gotten over that. "Or... m'sure there's someone else you could talk to."

He needed to get out more. He was pretty sure that Jaime wouldn't get much out of girl time with River, and he didn't think there was anyone else that he could just message out of the blue. She likely knew more people that she could call up, for that matter.

Jaime snorted. She bet he could go find Neytiri. "Not really interested in her sort of company," she admitted. She was still dodging the alien-turned-human, thank you very much.

"Why're you trying to push girls onto me?" she inquired, head tipped back to regard him upside down-ily. "I mean, you don't have to hang around if you don't want to, but don't bring other people into our house," she continued before she snorted. Especially not super-cheerful girls.

Man. Why couldn't she find someone here like Sarah? Or even Katie, for all her pretentious snobbery. Not that Katie was all that pretentious after you got past her walls.

Maybe she needed to find girls to be friends with. Maybe they'd have some advice on this stupid effing situation she'd wound herself up into.

"Well, y'said it was a never-endin' flow of boys," he said with a shrug. "Figured you was hinting that you could use some girl time and was offerin' my suggestions."

He paused. "Then again, I dunno. Mayhaps it wasn't a complaint. Can't say I rightly know one way or the other."

He did manage to refrain from saying anything bitter about why she may prefer the company of boys to girls, and what she may have been doing with the boys that she had been running into all afternoon - he knew it was taking it out of context, and was only because he was bitter because she'd been shutting him out when he'd been enjoying getting to know her, simply because he'd admitted to liking her as more than a friend. It was difficult though.

"It was a statement," Jaime murmured, shrugging against the couch. "I didn't mind their company. At least not until they started making out. Snogging. Whatever. You know, rubbing it in that I'm not getting any." Which was frustrating, because it was a self-imposed deal, and every time Mal started talking to her, she wanted to jump him, but things were so incredibly fucked up in her head that she wasn't sure if having sex with him would permanently rupture everything, or if it would somehow make things better.

"I suppose I should look on the bright side that they're the only ones fucking and that I'm pretty sure they invited me to join them." James, at least, had made a few not-entirely-joking-jokes about her heading upstairs with them.

Which she'd declined.

Because of Mal.

Who she was not getting any from, either.

Yes, she definitely needed to sort this out.

He glanced down at her. "What about that... guy you were seeing. The what's-his-name," Mal was pretty sure he'd never gotten a name, but he couldn't remember now if they'd ever established if Jaime even knew it. "Thought that since you didn't want..."

He cleared his throat. "Mean t'say that thought that since we'd..."

Well... he didn't know what they'd decided, did he? Now he was just getting himself all confuzzled.

"Mean t'say that I figured that you'd... have... y'know... gone and... got t'know him better, since you was so excited about that last week."

Jaime shrugged. She honestly hadn't ever sought him out again. Not that she hadn't left the house loudly announcing that that was where she'd been headed ... but she never actually had.

"Eddie," she clarified for Mal's benefit. "Was his name."

She sort of wished that Mal would just ... kiss her. Claim her. Stop pussyfooting around her. But she imagined she'd scared him off of even thinking about doing anything like that. Why yes, she had sabotaged this relationship in any way she could before it even had a chance to think about starting.

Shrugging, Jaime flipped through the channels until she landed on a western. One of the older ones, kind of cheesy, but whatever. It had guns and horses and it should catch Mal's attention so he stopped paying attention to the things she didn't want to talk about.

"Righ'," he said, momentarily distracted by the TV. He chortled once, shook his head, mumbled something to the effect of 'that's not what would have happened' and settled back on the couch, amused.

His hand strayed subconsciously, and he started to stroke her head gently before he realized what he was doing and stopped himself. She'd made her feelings very........... well vague, but they weren't together and he didn't have a right to be touching her like that.

... And then he realized they'd been talking, and she'd changed the channel. He was slow sometimes.

"If y'don't want t'talk about it, tha's fine," he said. "But if we could get rid of all've this awkward 'tween us, that'd be swell, darlin'."

"I don't want to talk about it," Jaime insisted. Because it hadn't felt nice, at all, when he'd stroked her hair. Nope.

"Besides, it's not my fault you're all awkward around me," she continued. "I mean, what'd I ever do to make it awkward?" She was perfectly aware that her logic was horrifically flawed, but that didn't mean she had any plans to change her tune.

She did sit up though, so he could join her on the couch rather than perching on the arm of it like he was doing. Though after she moved, she wondered if he'd take the hint and join her, or if he was going to take off. Honestly, she wasn't sure which would be preferable - unless they were actually going to sort their shit out ... soon.

"Nothin'," he conceded, glancing down when she moved and for a minute he thought she was ditching him. He glared before he realized she was just moving, and then he felt guilty, offering her a nod before easing himself down onto the couch. He did wince a bit - some of his muscles were still acting up. "Nothin' in particular, at least. Reckon the stuff you was doin' is the sort of way you youngin's court nowadays. I don't..." he sighed.

"I'd rather have it out one way or t'other," he said finally. "Whether you want t'try somethin', or not, I just wanna know, 'cause I feel like you've been avoidin' me since this whole drama started, an' I'd like t'be able to spend time with you again."

He paused. "Or maybe I got that wrong too. I don' know Jaime, I'm not cut out for this whole relationship thing. I'm more partial to the space kind."
