Summary: Lily and Varin start their investigation
Status: Open
Varin was crouched beside some ugly grey thing that vaguely resembled a hairless, winged wolf. He'd gone over the outside of the creature before using his wand to slit the creature open. Lily had been prepared with a vial, catching some of the blood as it spilled. Lily was proving to be a valuable companion; she didn't shy away from the dirtier things, and Varin liked that.
Flicking his wand a few more times, he levitated out the various bits that might be useful, hovering them over toward Lily who neatly caught them in containers. Later, he'd pass them out to the wizards that were interested in participating, and they could determine if there were any magical properties in the creatures.
Varin was hopeful that there would be; they were escaped from another realm - Hell, if the stories were to be believed - and Varin thought they might have a completely different sort of magic. If he could bend it, if they could all bend the magic to suit their purposes, it would be that much better for them all here. Severus could expand his potions. He could make better wands. Lily could work more potions as well, and perhaps even James and Sirius could find uses for things.
"Are you ready to move on?" he inquired even as he pointed his wand at the ground to levitate clumps of frozen soil from the ground so they could bury their find. It wouldn't do to leave it out, after all.
"Just about," she said as she made a few notes in a notebook she'd brought along. She was attempting to catalogue their finds so they didn't have repeat tests on things that weren't magical. Or that were, and they'd already figured out.
"Ready," she said as she closed the book and tucked the vials and containers into the large bag she carried with her. Following after the older wizard, she smiled contently. Sure, it was messy work - but it was useful, too.
