RP: Sneaky
Who: Lizzy, Toph
When: Early afternoon
Where: Government House 2, apparently.
Rating: PG
Summary: Lizzy pilfers a master key and slips in for a shower
Status: Closed?, completed

She'd pilfer a master key to a building from a bar patron at the joint she'd started to frequent in the hopes that she'd make enough friends with the management that they'd hire her as a waitress despite the fact that she was underage. She'd followed the patron home to see what building she now had the keys to, and the next day had slipped inside to find an unoccupied room.

She wasn't sure if she was going to stay in the place on a permanent basis, or just to warm up for a bit and use the shower facilities, but she knew she needed a break from winter. She'd been getting by for the most part, but it was getting harder with each night that she spent shivering in a corner or on a couch somewhere.

When she was finished in the shower, she felt a lot better, and slipped into newer, cleaner clothes she'd gotten with a little persuasion from the local mall, easing her way out into the hall and hoping no one noticed her sneaking around. She hadn't taken anything - this time - and she hadn't left a mess. She'd used her own towels and everything. Hopefully she could slip out unnoticed, or make something up if she got caught.

Toph didn't know that she liked this whole living situation. Then again she didn't know that she liked being in this place at all; it was cold. Being inside was good, though. She didn't need to cover her feet up like this. The snow was just too cold for her bare feet and it was the only way she could see out there. For now she was settled. She was still trying to figure everything out. It was so different here than it was at home. There were things Toph hadn't dreamed of here. She didn't honestly want to dream of them either.

Toph had been in the room that was her's for now. Government housing was good she supposed, she didn't like asking for help, she felt like she was a burden that way but for now it was all she had and all she could do. Toph sat on the edge of her bed, her feet were bare, of course, and her feet were planted firmly on the ground. She could feel vibration very distinctly. When someone was walking on the floor she was able to feel it, and other things. She was also able to hear everything that was going on in the house. Toph hadn't left much. It was hard for her to leave in the snow and she didn't own shoes really. She didn't like shoes they didn't feel good!

Toph heard someone in the shower and she wasn't sure who it was because as far as she knew no one else was around. That was why she found herself standing and moving out of her room. Her ears were trained and she waited and listened for what was happening. When someone had the distinct foosteps that mean they were trying to sneak, Toph cleared her throat.

"Who're you? What're you doing here? People who belong here don't sneak." The bravado was mostly put on. She couldn't do much without the earth beneath her feet, but that didn't mean she wouldn't run her mouth and didn't say something.

She jumped when someone accused her, turning wildly until she found the source of the voice. Dammit, she thought everyone was out. She knew this was a crowded house, but she'd watched carefully. Everyone was either out or... otherwise occupied.

Or so she thought. Maybe she could still play this to her advantage.

"Mar, you scared me. I just got here," she lied - she'd been here for a while. "I... they said that... I could... one of the houses," she waved her hands as though that completed her explanation. "They said there was room here? I don't know, maybe it was the next one, they all look the same..." she was starting to edge toward freedom, hoping she could bolt as soon as possible.

Toph's toes wiggled against the floor as she listened carefully. She couldn't see, but she could smell, she had her other senses and she was no pushover as many people found out. Toph couldn't see with the ground, but she could still feel all of the vibrations, she was so attuned to everything around her she sensed the speed up, she knew it was a lie. There was that and someone would have warned her.

"Lie." Toph announced confidently. "More than one lie." Toph said stepping forward having sensed that she was moving. "Maybe there is room here, but lying is stupid if you wanted that, idiot." Toph said in a grouse. "Guilty people try sneaking away and you're doing that, giving all sorts of signs." Toph was annoyed as she stepped closer, reaching out to grab onto the girl. Toph didn't like being lied to. "Wanna try again, Sneaky McLiar."

Lizzy did not appreciate being touched, and she pulled her arm back sharply, smacking it against the wall. She gasped out in pain, moving to grip it with her other arm.

"What's it to you?" she snarled. "I've got a card, and I've got a blackberry, and I have just as much right to use these places even if I don't want to live in some 'government sanctioned' excuse for a living establishment," and she would not be getting into the details of why that was, "and you've got not right to tell me that I can't use it 'cause it's not really yours either."

She was being childish, she knew, but this girl was being way too menacing and now she was hurt and confused and she really just wanted to get out of there. She felt cornered, and since she couldn't flee, she was fighting.

It was a good thing for Toph that she was steadfast, part of earthbending was not being wispy like an airbender, she let go when the girl jerked her arm away and the smack of it hitting the wall barely phased her. "Really? Afraid of a blind girl, what are you a ninny?" Toph taunted.

"Sneaking around like your doing something wrong is stupid. There ain't much you can hide from some people. If you wanted to clean up you could have knocked. Sneaking around doesn't make someone wanna trust you. For all I know--you're stealing or doing general bad things." Toph said

Toph didn't care that she was here, if she hadn't been sneaking around or whatever she would have been fine, but the way she had gonea bout it made her seem guilty and Toph didn't like that. She didn't like the whole skulking around. It made her feel like there was danger to worry about.

"I'm not afraid," she spat, and that was true - though she hadn't realized Toph was blind until she'd said so. She glared all the more, but she didn't think that it was going to make it any easier to slip away if the girl was this aware so far.

"Really," she said, crossing her arms. "I just knock on the door and say, 'hi, just going to use you shower for a bit' and everyone in the house says, 'oh yeah, that's cool'. I doubt it. And even if that's the case, what's the problem with me using it without asking?" she saw the difference, but she didn't really care, and she was annoyed that she hadn't just thought to ask.

She didn't like people looking down on her, and she felt very judged now.

"So is this little intervention done now?" she asked crossing her arms. "Or are you going to turn me in?"

"Hey, you're the one flailing around like a sissy, not me." Toph obviously didn't know when to stop, but that was one of her personality traits. She wasn't scared. The glare went over her head, and she didn't quite care if she was being glared at. Azula and others had made her kind of immune to that by now.

Toph listened to the other girl's comment and rolled her eyes. "I don't see why not. They're 'government houses' or whatever, remember. Meant to be used, groucho." Toph said in a 'duh' tone of voice. "You broke in, snuck around, you could have gotten attacked, idiot. I'm the only one here anyway, it's not like there'd have been anyone else to say no." Toph pointed out as she shook her head a little.

"Intervention? You're dumb and lucky. You wanna go--go, I don't care, next time don't sneak around or you won't be so lucky probably." Toph crossed her arms, her face looking somewhere to the left of the girl. Part of her had confronted her because of the sneaking but another part had gotten tired of sitting in her room. She didn't exactly know what to do with herself here and it was annoying her.

She scoffed, and refrained from pointing out that she had reacted in an attempt to escape from someone grabbing her and that she thought her actions were justified, and not at all 'flailing like a sissy' but what was the point? This girl was obviously the sort who would have fit in at the palace - at least back when Lizzy actually lived there. Lizzy thought she would have gotten along nicely with the other girls there who used to pick on her, and was not exactly looking to stand around feeling condescended to and insulted any longer.

"I can take care of myself just fine, thanks," she snapped, turning to leave unless Toph stopped her. "I don't need luck - I can make my own." Which was half true, at least. She did have a persuasive power that she could use to her advantage in most situations. But she was trying to use it sparingly here because she didn't know of its effectiveness, or who (or what) was watching her.

Assuming she didn't get stopped (or there wasn't a comment made that she felt she needed to retort to) she slipped out of the building the way she'd come in, intending not to use it again.
