RP: Hardly Surprising
Who: Buffy, open
When: Early evening
Where: Starting at the barn, moving toward town. Find her wherever
Rating: PG to PG-13 depending on who joins
Summary: The Slayer arrives
Status: Open, ongoing

She wasn't sure what she'd been expecting. All she knew was that they'd failed - her little sister had been cut, just a small, little, insignificant cut, and had bled, opening the doorway between worlds - and in an attempt to save the world (for the I've-lost-count-time), she'd chosen the self sacrificial route without really thinking about it...

And now... she found herself ankle deep in snow, outside of a... was that a barn? Well, she thought it used to be a barn. There was a heavy, heavy feel of magic in the air that was tingling the edges of her skin and was the only indication she wasn't in Sunnydale anymore.

She didn't know what she was expecting. She didn't remember dying the first time, and she didn't really know... harps and angels were all bull, she'd always thought, but... there had always been the potential for something better than what she'd been living through. Spike had called it, she thought, when he'd said that all Slayers secretly hoped for death. She hadn't exactly given much thought to other options - she just jumped. Dawn was in danger and she... jumped.

... But anyway, whatever she'd been expecting, it wasn't snow and a busted barn. But she could hardly say that she was surprised.

Shrugging her shoulders - she was only wearing a light sweater, and it was a bit chilly. Glancing up and down the road when she found it, she moved in the direction she thought town was. She expected a long walk in front of her, but... hey. Nothing more than a typical night of slaying, right?

Steve was out and about. He wasn't really so much doing the hero thing tonight. If he saw something going on he would stop and deal with it, but for the most part he was just out for a run. Sure it was a run in his specially designed suit and he was going about a hundred miles a minute, but to him this was still just a leisurely run.

This town was no where near as large as Paragon City, so the fact that he passed by the barn site was not so much a coincidence as just a matter of time, and when he saw a cute blond walking in the snow, well what guy wouldn't want to help out. I mean he was a hero after all, it was only to be expected that he would help. At least that's how he was rationalizing his desire to stop and flirt.

He stopped a few feet in front of her, probably seemingly appearing out of nowhere. "Evening, can I be of service to you?"

She glanced up, and blinked rapidly for a moment. Had she been so absorbed in her thoughts that she hadn't seen him approaching, or had he really just... appeared? Her demon alarms were going off, but she'd play it cool for now.

"I'm not sure," she admitted, offering him a coy smile. "I don't really know anyone in town, and I guess I'm looking for a place to spend the night." It was close enough to the truth. Somehow she dobuted, 'I jumped through a portal and ended up in an alternate dimension' was going to go over too well.

He grinned at the girl. He had a feeling that she was in the same situation he was in not too long ago. "New in town huh? Well, I'm Steve," he told her as he pushed back his protective mask. He wore it usually to hide his identity but he didn't feel that was too necessary to hide his identity when he didn't even exist in this world. It was now solely to prevent bugs from hitting his eye at high speed.

"I'm still new to this place too so, the only place I can offer is my room." He smiled at her then gave a small laugh, "Though if that won't work for you, I'm sure the place I'm staying has another room that you can rent."

She was a bit more at ease when he lifted the mask, and was trying really hard not to giggle. For all she knew, that was the style in this dimension, and she looked horribly out of place not wearing a mask, but she associated it with the cartoon super heroes back home, and wondered who this guy thought he was.

But then again, for all intents and purposes, he'd appeared out of nowhere. Maybe he did have some kind of special ability and was some kind of superhero. She tried not to giggle at that.

"You might say that," she said to his 'new in town' comment, extending her hand. "I'm Buffy. And... I'm not really intended on staying long. Are there any hotels you could point me in the direction of? One night stay as opposed to... you know. Forever?" she grinned a bit.

She was doing everything she could to hide her nerves, but the more comfortable she became in the dimension she was in now, the more anxious she became. This didn't feel like death, and what had happened back in Sunnydale? Was Dawn okay? Xander, Willow, Giles? In spite of herself, she was even worried a bit about Spike.

Maybe there'd be a way to find out. To look back into the other dimension and see what everyone was up to. Not go back, necessarily, if that was against some rule, but just to see what was going on.
