RP: Getting a Drink
Who: Pogue, open
When: Eveningtime
Where: Nicky's
Rating: PG-13, or thereabouts
Summary: Pogue is drinking away his worries
Status: Open, ongoing

He stared into his drink. He wasn't sure what number this was - he'd lost count after his third or fourth. He was judging by how pretty the other late evening patrons were whether or not he had had too much tonight.

He wasn't riding. Hadn't ridden here and wasn't riding back because he intended to get abosolutely shitfaced. The kind of shitfaced you got when you didn't want to remember anything in the morning. He wasn't being all the successful, even if he was losing count of his drinks, and he wondered if half of it was guilt.

He should stay sober, take some of the slack of being nominated 'go-to guy' off Caleb's shoulders. But he wasn't cut out for this kind of thing.

He gave serious consideration - and not for the first time - to just hopping on his bike and heading out somewhere and just not coming back. But he knew the guilt would kill him. So he drowned his sorrows in alcohol every once in a while instead.

Tabitha was working the closing shift at Nicky's. She had her red shirt with the apron and all. She was begining to surprise herself how well she was adjusting to living in Ipswich. Being Kitty's roommate was a lot easier than living with the boys at The Brotherhood House. For one thing, she smelled better and cleaned up after herself. She fell into the routine of work and home life.

When the mess began with the monsters it didn't phase Tabitha. She would blow a few up here and there and continue on her merry way to work. Monsters were nothing knew to her. They were always out there in one form or another.

She was wiping the counter with a rag as the clock behind the bar, of course fast since it is a bar, was starting to inch it's way to closing time.

"Hey." she said when she worked her way down the bar to the man at the end. "We'll be closing in a bit, did you need another or a cab?"

He didn't hear her at first, but he sensed her presence more than anything. He glanced up, went back over what she had said, and blinked in surprise. He wasn't aware that he'd been here that long.

"Neither," he muttered. His words were only slightly slurred, and if he focused it wouldn't even be noticeable. "Thanks for the offer, but it's not far. I can walk."

He gripped the bar, pulling himself carefully to his feet. His knees wobbled a bit, but... he was stable. And worse case scenario he could use a bit to keep his balance.

Tabitha watched as the man tried to stand but clearly was no where near alright to go outside on his own. She moved around the bar and grabbed his elbows.

"Whoa!" she said trying to prevent him from falling over. "Look, you can't go out like that. Just...sit until you feel alright." she let go of him slowly, hoping he would take her advice. The last thing she needed was her boss on her ass for unleashing a man under the influence out on the world to reak havoc. That is to destroy whatever the monsters had not.

Tabitha moved back around the bar and reached for a mug to fill with coffee. Honestly, she of all people should know coffee was only a placebo but it still did something at least. She poured a cup and slid it down the bar to the man. "Here, I should've cut you off a while ago..." she added.

He rolled his eyes. He'd been stable. She was making a big deal out of nothing. But he didn't feel much like going, anyway, so he heeded her advice, slipping back into his set and accepting the coffee when she offered it though he'd doubt it do much.

"You could've tried," he offered with a sort of wry smirk before he rolled his shoulders. "I didn't have that much, and I swear I'm fine to walk home, you don't need to worry about me getting into trouble." He shrugged, rolling his phone out of his sleep. "Besides, there's guys I can call."

And wouldn't they just love that. They don't have to drive out in the middle of the night to pick up some displaced kid, they have to pick up a friend who's had maybe a bit too much to drink that the bar wants him being escorted home rather than heading out on his own.

"I can handle what I've had, really," he said, but he drank the coffee just to be accommodating.

"Sorry." Tabitha said and leaned on the bar. She watched as she pulled out his phone. "You're not like me are you." it wasn't a question. Based on the others she had met like her it was obvious he was from around here. People lik her were more obvious about how new everything was.

She moved to give another customer the last beer they orderd for the night before returning to him. "This might be a stupid question but, are you OK?" she finally asked. Tabitha had been around drinkers her entire life, whether they were her parents, the group of thieves she ran, or The Brotherhood; she had grown to tell when someone was drinking to numb something.

"Like you?" he raised an eyebrow, but then she'd gone off to serve someone else. He'd started thinking of getting to his feet again, but then she was coming back and he wasn't interested in getting another scolding, so he sipped his coffee instead.

"Am I okay?" he echoed, and he was starting to sound like a broken record. "Yeah, fine. Just had a bad week." Month, year, life. It was nothing he wasn't able to handle. "Can't say that I'm much of a fan of the demons, displacements, and whatever else we've got running around town right now, but it's not like anyone else is much of a fan of it either, so there's no sense in complaining about it."

He rolled his shoulders, kicking his legs a bit under the table to test his coordination, and he thought it was getting better. She'd probably let him leave soon.
