"Oh, I heard there was some kind of note passin' gone wrong today," Daisy said. She was curled up in Carter's tiny bed, comfortable in her place between the wall and her boyfriend. It was dark outside, but neither of them were quite ready to sleep yet, and both were content to enjoy the empty bedroom for the time until Clem returned. She readjusted herself against his side and looked up at Carter's face, smiling. "I think it's kinda cute that y'all pass notes. I can teach ya some cool ways to fold them into little shapes, if ya want," Daisy joked. Carter laughed, giving her a light shove on the shoulder. "I'm sure Omar'd be real impressed." There was no question in his mind regarding how, exactly, Daisy had unearthed this information -- Hunter had been the one who'd ended up with the note in the end, after all. But all the same, he couldn't help but be curious... "So, what'd he say 'bout it?" Carter paused, before clarifying. "Hunter, I mean." Daisy rolled her eyes, recalling the conversation. "That Coralie walked in on Omar in the shower once, which is like, not really very surprising. I know she's on your team, but that girl is totally bizarre." She ran a hand through her hair as she spoke, wondering if she should share the rest. Of course, Carter would have to know that the Coralie piece wasn't the only thing Hunter had shared. He wasn't dumb, despite Hunter's insistent protestations to the contrary. "And like, typical Hunter stuff about like, spelling and grammar and whatever." Daisy looked at Carter, hoping to indicate with her expression how very little she cared about his ability to spell four-letter words. "I mean... y'know how he is." Scoffing, Carter shifted in the tiny bed, his eyes finding Daisy's own. "Yeah, I know how that asshole is," he muttered, but there was no venom in his tone. "My spelling isn't good enough for MacKenna?" He grinned his trademark half-smile. "I guess I'll just have to try real hard to impress him from now on." Daisy laughed, her smile mirroring Carter's. He had that I'm-thinking-about-ways-to-cause-trouble look upon his face, the same look that Daisy always seemed to find so strangely irresistible. Her hand went to his stomach and found a bit of his shirt to pinch between her fingers, but Daisy's eyes never left Carter's. "Somehow I don't think ya mean that you're gonna start spell-checkin' your notes in Spanish class." Daisy wondered if it were even possible for Carter's spelling to irritate Hunter even more than it already did. It only took her a second to find the answer to that question: Hunter's irritation levels could always be increased. "What else would I mean?" Carter replied, feigning innocence. But in truth, the possibilities were fucking endless. It didn't take a lot to piss off Hunter, Carter knew, but a foolproof way to intentionally annoy the other boy...well. He certainly wasn't about to pass that particular opportunity up. "But enough about MacKenna," he muttered, shoveling that bit of knowledge away for later use and leaning closer to Daisy. "There's other things I'd rather be doing." "Oh yeah?" Daisy slipped her hand under his shirt. "You sure? You don't wanna lay in bed and talk about Hunter all night?" There was no answer, or at least not one that came in so many words. |
