Santiago did not think himself as a violent person. He thought himself of the kind of person who did what was needed to ensure the survival and well being of himself and those that he found in the same situation as he. It was with this state of mind that made him launch himself at those who threatened those that he, Lo, Richie and Oden left behind in the College Party nightmare creation of George Cooper instead of running away in fear. He was also helpful to the point that, in the past before IVI, he found himself in situations that took too many twists and turns when he lived by his own on the streets of Mexico. Situations that he neglected to dwell on or tell anyone about. Situations involving people that he left behind after making sure they were safe. It was with both of these things that Santiago threw himself into the rescue operations. It was with both of these things that Santiago found himself running into a building filled with kidnappers and he was everywhere when the din of the gunfight began. His power giving him a significant edge in avoiding their bullets, disarming and incapacitating them. By the end, few of the kidnappers went without having Santiago’s fists colliding with their bodies in some way. And Santiago stood surveying the inside of the Indonesian stronghold. Eyes taking in bodies whose chests weren’t rising, whose blood slowly pooled around them and IVF personnel walking with their guns still raised. One raised her gaze to meet Santiago’s who stood there with his hair windblown and blood (none of it his) splattered over him odd patterns before he moved on to follow Kitoko in the direction that the kidnapped Vols were being held. He was hushed once or twice. All still alert and it was not hard for him to fall into the same concentrated silence as he took in all around him before stopping in front of a metal door. A few seconds ticked by and the door was swung open. Santiago let a few armed IVF personnel enter before he darted into the room. “Hello!” Santiago said brightly. Smile wide and friendly as ever while his eyes hungrily took in the entire room, searching for someone in particular. “I am Santiago. You are all safe now.” Sara had been huddled, terrified, behind the makeshift barricade that Leona had created with one of the stray cots. It would not, she knew, do much good against the guns she could hear firing away outside, but it was a small comfort, all the same. A divider between them, and whomsoever wished them so much ill. When the door opened, after what seemed like years, Sara flinched, pulling herself even closer to the other kidnapped Vols. Who knew whether it was a friend or foe standing outside the door? She was too terrified to even look. But the voice that greeted them was one that Sara knew, a warm, friendly voice that she had grown to trust during her time at IVI. “Santiago?” she said, shifting away from the others and standing at long last. The smile grew impossibly wider as Sara appeared from behind an upturned cot and he called her name happily. She seemed fine, she looked just like he saw her last before she left to go home. But different as anyone would be having been ripped from their homes and forced into such a situation. They were safe now, Sara was safe and standing in front of him but he was still worried about her. His smile faded slightly but ultimately held as he wondered how he looked right then. Outfitted in a black uniform, bulletproof vest strapped over his torso, boot knives strapped to the combat boots and flanked by IVF soldiers. And the splattered blood he suddenly became aware of that littered his hands, forearms and possibly his face. He felt embarrassed. None of the Roosters aside from Richie has seen what Santiago could do in a fight. Wounds that no one would ever guess the youngest Rooster, a person who was always so nice and friendly, could inflict on a person. No one should see him like this but he pushed back the self consciousness. Santiago picked his way to her, moving slower than he had in the past hour as to not alarm her, and giving her a warm smile before pulling her into a tight hug. "I am so glad that you are okay," he began, eyes embarrassingly beginning to water and grateful that Sara could not see. "They did not harm you in anyway, yes?" “No,” Sara murmured, hugging him back with just as much vigor. But as she pulled away, her smile quickly turned into an expression of concern. She reached forward hesitantly, lightly touching his blood-spattered uniform. “But you, are you okay? All this blood --” Sara broke off, her voice cracking. What if one of their rescuers had been injured? Or, even worse, killed? She could not bear the thought of others being hurt, hurt because of her. “Oh, Santiago,” she said, her accent strong and voice thick with emotion. "Oh no the blood is not mine!" Santiago said shaking his head frantically, afraid that he was distressing Sara even more. His left fingers trailed down his opposite arm and smeared the splatters of blood before wiping them off as best as he could on his shirt. "I am fine. No one can hurt me, I move faster!" He said so cheerfully even if it was not entirely true, he woke up from the dream with several bruises from bats and crowbars as well as several fractured fingers. But those fights were different with hardly any rest in between them and seemingly endless enemies from various nightmares near the end. "There is a place we are supposed to go back to. Allegra is there! And your Swan friend Sel!" “Allegra? Sel?” Sara reached reflexively for Santiago’s arm, seeking comfort. So many names and faces had flashed through her mind these past -- two? three? who knew how many days it had been. There had been the Roosters, every one, from Sam to Dani to even Devon. There had been Savannah, with her bright red hair, and Clara, with her golden. Knowing that Allegra and Sel were safe was a relief, but so many people were yet unaccounted for. “What of our team?” she whispered, unheeding of the commotion around them. The IVF guards had filtered in now, and were checking her fellow kidnappees for harm or injury. “Oh, I’m so very glad you’re safe!” Her arms were around Santiago once again, the blood on his uniform slowly seeping into the fabric of her own hated cover-all. Santiago nodded vigorously at the repetition of the names he just said moving so Sara was right at his side as she reached for his arm and hugged her back. "I am glad that you are safe too." He whispered during the hug before beginning to give Sara information she wanted. "Your roommate is okay! She, Sam, Mason, Meena, Richie and Jodi are in a safehouse in America helping get the kidnapped students from there back. Enver and Dani are in the European safehouse. Devon chose to go back to IVI where she is now really bored." His voice did not change from the cheerful tone but he paused as he skipped over two of their teammates, biting into his lip and casting a look around briefly to the movement around him. "Jack, Mette and you were the only one our team taken. They tried to take Mason. And Donovan, they were together when the kidnappers tried but I do not know why they thought they could take Mason." The thought amused him when he first heard of it. “But do not worry! They are okay and we will get Mette and Jack back like we got you back!" He smiled, it not reaching his eyes with the mild uncertainty of his statement and searching Sara's face for any emotion that would crop up. “They took Mette? And Jack?” Her lip trembled, and it took all the control Sara had not to cry. She’d hoped, fervently hoped, that this tiny group were the only ones who’d been taken -- and now, rescued. But clearly that wasn’t the case. “I need -- I want to get out of here,” she said at last, struggling to keep her voice even. Sara looked around the room, their prison for the past few days, empty and blank aside from one tiny window placed high in the wall. God, she had never hated anything more. “Where are they taking us?” she said, moving hesitantly towards the door. “Of course,” Santiago murmured with a nod, completely understanding her need to leave the room she had been held in for days. It probably was not his best decision to unload all of what happened still in said room but at least she did not ask for a full list of all those that were kidnapped. Something that Santiago could have given her with ease as he memorized all the listed names of kidnapped IVI students. He moved after her automatically, appearing none too eager to leave her side any time soon. Much like a puppy having just been reunited with his favorite person. “A safehouse!” He answered, walking in step with her surrounded by IVF guards and IVI students. “It is... well, safe. Much nicer than here but that is not hard to do if we are being honest.” |
