Coralie was adamant in that she did not believe in heaven. But she would be lying if she denied that this weekend was making her reconsider. If sunbathing on the beach of a private island wasn’t heavenly, she would never be able to understand the proper meaning of the word, and right now, she was experiencing a feeling of abject, unparalleled bliss. As she closed her eyes, she could feel the hot sun beating down on her, hear the soothing sound of the waves lapping at the shores - so new, and so exciting. She had never been to a beach before, and this reward for the egg challenge was beyond her wildest dreams. It was thrilling, validating, and... Drained by the sun and more relaxed than she had been in a long time, Coralie drifted off to sleep. Claudia had just gotten out of the water and was drying herself off with her beach towel when she noticed Coralie had dozed off. She wasn’t super into pranking, usually leaving that sort of thing to Allegra, but Anthony’s prank ideas had sounded fun and pretty harmless so she was hoping that they would get an opportunity to try them and Coralie sleeping provided the perfect chance to bury her in the sand. She beckoned Anthony to come over to her before silently picking up a handful of sand and lightly pouring it over Coralie’s legs to see if it would wake her. “I think we have a victim,” she whispered to Anthony. It had been a long while since Anthony pulled off pranks. Really, he hadn’t the opportunity to pull off one since... high school. And that had seemed such a long time ago. He was looking at the shells he had found on the beach when he saw Claudia motioning him to come towards her. Dropping the shells he had been inspecting, he walked over to her, at once understanding what she meant. His eyes went to Coralie’s sleeping figure, the way she didn’t even respond when his partner-in-crime attempted to wake her up. A mischievous yet delighted smile formed on his mouth, and it took a lot of self restraint for him to clamp his mouth shut from laughing. He gave Claudia an approving nod, one finger to his lips to remind her (and himself, really) to be quiet -- then he scooped up some sand in his hands to start covering Coralie’s right leg. Part way through covering Coralie in sand, Claudia and Anthony had decided to be more artistic and had ended up crafting a nice mermaid tail over her legs. It took a while and there were a few times when Claudia had thought that Coralie was going to wake up but eventually their creation was finished, complete with scale-like shapes drawn on the tail and some shells and seaweed to make Coralie look more like a mermaid. Claudia stood up and brushed the sand off herself, admiring their work. “I guess now we just wait?” Shaking from silent laughter, Anthony added a few finishing touches to the sandy mermaid tail before standing up, arms folded as he tilted his head as if to carefully inspect if there was anything missing. “Maybe she’d like it and thank us,” he whispered. With somewhat fortuitous timing, Coralie started to come to. She quickly noticed that something was... strange. Everything was gritty and rough - where was that sea breeze she felt before? Wait a second, why couldn’t she move her legs? And why was there so much sand between her toes? Wait a second. Her eyes snapped open, and as soon as she adjusted to the bright sunlight, she looked down at her chest and torso, which was -- that of a mermaid’s? Made of sand? She looked upwards, and was met with the sight of Anthony and Claudia, who looked somewhat amused. “This is- what is this? I do not understand. Is it normal to bury people and turn them into mermaids at the beach?” While she had intended to sound angry with her questions, for this was very unexpected, Coralie came off as bewildered, more than anything. And though she did not want to admit it, it was hard to be annoyed at any of the Swans. “It’s probably not normal,” Claudia answered, not really sure what to say to that question. “But it’s not abnormal either. She hoped Coralie wasn’t mad about the prank, she liked her teammates and didn’t want to piss any of them off. “You make a really pretty mermaid?” The possibility that Coralie might end up being offended by the small prank didn't occur to Anthony, who was more amused than anything else. His lips twitched, though he didn't laugh just yet. It was getting more and more difficult after he had restrained himself just now, and looking at how bewildered she seemed to be. "It fits you," he chimed in. Nobody had ever told Coralie that she was a good mermaid before. Of course, she had never actually been made into a mermaid before, but that was totally irrelevant. And flattery got you practically everywhere with the French girl, so she was already quite pleased with their prank by the time she noticed the seaweed they’d added on her fishy tail as an extra touch. She burst into peals of laughter, and when they subsided she spoke again. “I think I have sand everywhere, but oh, this is so funny. I think I like being a mermaid, actually. Maybe I will stay like this all day!” |
