Nawal's Sunday had been long, from checking in on Edwin through all the work she needed to finish by Monday. She'd seriously considered skipping mass, just to have the extra hour, but she went anyway, just so she wouldn't have to confess intentionally skipping. Instead of paying attention to the chaplain, though, she spent the hour thinking about her student council campaign, and she figured she'd have to confess that anyway. By the evening, she wasn't in much of a mood to deal with the hustle of the dining hall, so she grabbed a can of soup from the convenience store and headed to the dorm kitchen to heat it up.
She could tell something was strange when she walked into the room. When she saw Chris Barbary wiping up the floor with a bowl floating in midair over her head, it wasn't too hard to figure out what. Nawal knew Chris peripherally from Culinary Club and Vol Club. She was so much older than the other girl that they didn't talk much, but she knew Chris well enough to know that her powers were classified as the opposite of her own. Molecular immobilization.
Nawal set her can of soup on the counter and reached over to pluck the floating bowl out of midair. "Here, I can get that for you," she said. She looked into the bowl in her hands. Even though she had righted it, the frozen frosting inside still seemed like it was threatening to spill over the edge. No doubt Chris's powers had prevented her from having to clean up even more. "This must be useful."
