WHO: Hailey Hamilton & Claudia Corbett
WHAT: Planning a surprise
WHEN: Thursday, August 16, before Mason's party.
WHERE: Hailey’s room.
WARNINGS: None.
STATUS: Complete log.
Claudia spent almost as much time on the 2nd floor of the girls tower as she did her own floor, Allegra’s room being one of her favourite hang outs not only because the company was good but because it was a lot cleaner than her own room. For once she wasn’t going to 2h though, instead stopping a door short and knocking on the door of 2g. She had an idea but she wanted (needed really, due to a complete lack of anything resembling organisational skills) Hailey’s help to pull it off. Hailey would never have considered herself ‘organized’, but she was. She was decent at planning and running things - as evidenced by her room, hockey, and prank. Hailey wasn’t afraid to take charge or go after the things she wanted, so that helped too. “We can book one of the warehouses,” Hailey suggested. “Allegra talks to pretty much everyone, so I don’t even know what to about a guestlist... but if Mal is behaving he could DJ or we could just play music? Or we could do a games night. She might like that better.” “Or maybe something where she can be alone for a while?” Claudia suggested. Allegra did have a ton of friends here already and a party or games night would be fun but people, sometimes Allegra herself, were often planning them so it would be nice to do something different. “Being around so many people can be hard for her.” “Yeah,” Hailey said, agreeing. She knew Allegra was social and liked being around lots of people, but with her power she imagined it was sometimes better to be alone. “What did you have in mind?” Hailey’s first thought, of course, was a bonfire. Next was snowboarding. Neither of those were likely to happen though. Sandboarding may be possible in Australia, but in the compound that also wasn’t possible. Truth be told, Hailey didn’t have any suggestions jumping to mind. Claudia considered this for a moment, trying to think of a good idea that would be fun for Allegra. The only thing she could think of didn’t really seem achievable, at least not with help from quite a few people, but maybe Hailey would have some ideas on how to make it possible, or at least be able to use it as a springboard for other ideas. “It would be cool if we could turn a room into her own private beach for the day,” she said. “Obviously, without the water but like maybe some sand in a hot room, a beach towel and, like, recordings of crashing waves. But it seems kind of hard to do.” “Hmm,” Hailey said, considering it. “Well, I have my warehouse where they keep my pool. Maybe I could talk to my trainer about doing that there? Then at least she would have some water. My roommate can make pretty much any image appear in a mirror, so she could make crashing waves appear. I don’t know about sand... I’m sure somewhere here can make it. I actually don’t know too much about too many people’s powers.” There had to be someone who could make sand, right? Hailey knew there was someone who could make illusions, but she figured that wouldn’t be enough. Allegra would want to feel the sand. Claudia didn’t know people’s powers well enough to know if anyone could make sand either but people seemed to be able to do all sorts of cool stuff so maybe it was possible. “We can ask around,” she suggested. “Allegra has enough friends that hopefully other people won’t mind helping. Otherwise we might have to see if we can borrow any of the sand from the gardens.” Though carting sand into a warehouse might look weird. “Yeah. We could always filter to, uh, not Allegra on the journals and see if anyone can manipulate or create sand? People can create alcohol, apparently, so sand has to be easier. I donno about taking sand from the gardens though! That would be awkward, but not the worst idea. As for temperature, well I know there’s the girl that can change the weather, Audra? Maybe she can do something. Or one of the fire-powered vols. Or I could just ask my trainer to up the heat for the day. Not that it would take too much, eh?” Hailey didn’t think it was ‘hot’ outside by any means, but it was warm enough that she imagined a building would heat up pretty fast. “Audra did ask people what sort of weather they wanted on the network that time,” Claudia pointed out. “I think she would be okay with heating up the room to the right temperature just for a few hours.” They had water sorted, a plan for sand and temperature, they really only needed the little extras now. “What else do we need? A big beach towel and some snacks?” “Yeah, Audra seems nice. I bet she would help. We should probably just ask people close to us or Allegra about the sand thing though, instead of asking the whole network. That way Allegra won’t find out. I have a beach towel from home, but she might want a new one or something. I donno. What kind of snacks do you eat at the beach? I mean, I have some sand near my house but mostly we spend time on the dock and it’s a lot of beer...” Hailey had never been in an ocean before, but she liked the whole idea of beach living. Claudia nodded, agreeing with everything Hailey said. She didn’t want the surprise to be ruined just because they’d let the wrong people know. Allegra had spent a fair amount trying to make other people feel better, even if in a way that was for her own sake too, so Claudia thought it was important to try to do the same for her. “I think your beach towel would be fine, if you don’t mind her borrowing it,” she answered. It would make it easier than trying to find a new towel, ot having to order one in and wait for it to get past IVI security checks. “Ice cream is always good at the beach! Or just snacks like chips and lollies. Or a beach picnic! Just not chocolate because it melts.” “Not a problem for Allegra to borrow it!” Hailey’s eyes widened at the suggestion of ice cream. Even though her lake was frozen for six or more months a year, she loved her ice cream. “What if we pack her a picnic, and then an hour or so later we can serve her ice cream? She might get bored by herself, but we could bring her some books and stuff too so she can entertain herself. Also we should steal her cellphone and force her to isolate herself for a bit.” Hailey knew how often Allegra was on her cell phone, more or less because Hailey was almost always texting her. Cell phones were relatively new to Hailey, and the novelty had not yet worn off. “Great idea!” Claudia agreed. “Put her ipod in too and she can just relax, read and listen to music without having to deal with anyone else’s emotions.” They could easily take Allegra’s phone off her when she wasn’t paying attention and some time without it did sound like a good thing for her. “When we bring her ice cream we can hang around on our fake beach and eat some too.” She was sure Allegra wouldn’t mind their company and she missed ice cream on the beach too! Plus they were going to all this effort to make the beach, they should get to spend some time on it. “Yeah,” Hailey said with a smile. She’d only known Allegra for a short while, but the girl had already done so much for Hailey. She definitely deserved something back. All that sorting through emotions and technology was not something Hailey could have tackled alone. Plus Allegra had found her hockey, which basically made Allegra Hailey’s goddess. “Does she have a favourite flavour? Not that Allegra gets along great with him, but I could probably ask Richie’s advice on a maple flavoured ice cream and then she can have Australian and Canadian flavours all at once.” Hailey could definitely get down with a fake beach and ice cream. “Coconut and lychee gelato,” Claudia answered, having eaten ice cream with Allegra enough to know the answer. “Or cafe grande but that’s not as good for the beach.” If Richie was happy to help despite not getting along with Allegra than Claudia was definitely okay with that idea. “Maple ice cream sounds interesting, I’ve never had it! I only ever have maple syrup on pancakes.” Hailey’s eyebrows narrowed at the flavour. “Coconut and what what?” She was from the country, she’d heard of coconut and didn’t really like it, and she had no idea what the hell a lychee was. She sort of recognized the term gelato, but she’d also never eaten it. Ice cream she loved, and frozen yogurt wasn’t bad. “Maple syrup is amazing in and on everything, really. Maple glaze for meat, fish especially, is great. And donuts, you’ve never had a maple donut? Australis is nuts,” Hailey said with a smile. While Hailey thought it was weird that Claudia didn’t coat everything with maple syrup, Claudia thought it was weird that she didn’t know what a lychee was. “You know. The little white fruit. It comes in a spiky skin that you have to peel off but it’s delicious!” She didn’t eat meat but she also didn’t understand why you would cover it with a sweet glaze, it seemed sort of weird. Unless it was like a honey-baked ham type situation but she didn’t eat ham so she had no idea if that was even a nice combination. “I’ve had a maple and pecan pastry?” she said, not sure if that counted. “They’re nice!” “Are you being serious?” Hailey asked. Who would want to eat a white spiky fruit? Hailey knew there was a lot she didn’t know, and a lot she was ignorant about, but at least most people so far had been okay to explain things. “Maple and pecan!” Hailey said, “yes! That sounds delicious.” Hailey ate more mapley things than an average Canadian, but she didn’t mind playing into that stereotype. “So, I guess all we need now is to talk to Audra, see if anyone we know knows about sand, get together food, and pick a date eh?” Hailey was excited, to say the least. “When lychees are back in season you’ll have to try one!” Claudia informed her. “And if you can find me a maple donut I’ll try one of them.” It seemed like a fair trade, lychees were delicious and she couldn’t imagine a maple donut tasting bad. “We can filter a post to Audra and friends of Allegra and ask them and then do it next weekend, maybe? So we have time to get it all set up and everything.” Hailey wasn’t so sure about this lychee thing, but she wasn’t going to voice that. Maybe if Claudia or Allegra peeled it for her first and tried to pass it off as something else she’d give it a taste. It sounded odd, though. Hailey didn’t even really like mangos and that was all she found herself comparing lychee too. “Next weekend, yeah. Sounds great. Caleb can channel powers too, so maybe he can help out Audra or whoever makes the sand.” “Sounds great, thanks for helping,” Claudia replied with a smile. Hopefully Allegra would enjoy what they had planned for her! |
