It was chaos, inside and out. Adrenaline pumping through her veins, Sadie wasn't even thinking, just doing - running from door to door down the endless hallways (there were so many rooms, enough for all the Vols in the world, she thought) and smashing them open. Most of them were empty, of course, but she had to - had to - make sure no room was untouched. Just in case. Dangerous Vols. Eliminated.. She came to a dead end. With hardly a flick of her hand, she brought down the wall before her and burst into a common room, filled with supplies for... things she didn't want to think about it. There was someone there and reflexively she brought up the shattered concrete and dry wall around her shoulders, ready to defend herself before she realized it was another IVI student. "Oh, hi," she panted, looking about wildly for anyone that needed freeing, instruments or serums that needed destroying. “Hey,” Caleb said, his own hands up, wondering for what wasn’t the first time in the past twenty four hours how his life had come to this. He’d lost Hailey in the chaos that was solitary - a building he didn’t know well at all in the first place - and had been hoping that the figure on the other side of the wall had been her. Though he should have suspected it wasn’t, seeing as her powers weren’t capable of anything nearly that destructive. Instead it was Sam’s little sister, who he knew of, but didn’t particularly know. “Find anyone?” he asked, also a little out of breath. Sadie shook her head, frowning. "Not in a little bit..." she started to say, when suddenly the world was noise. An explosion erupted through the other side of the building, sending shockwaves that shook and clattered the room, knocking over cabinets and breaking glass vials. Deafened by the noise, Sadie's face became a mask of fear as she stared in blind panic at Caleb. Above them, the walls and ceiling began to fracture. "It's going to fall!!" she screamed, not knowing if Caleb could hear her - she could barely hear herself. Flinging her arms up she strained her senses to feel all the earthen materials around her and commanded them to stay away. It felt like things were moving in slow motion when Caleb heard the noise, and he reached out with his powers, trying to lock onto something - anything - nearby. Strengthened from having used Sam’s powers in the medical building, Caleb latched on to them, mirroring Sadie’s movements as he tried to hold up all things metal. He’d just barely gotten them steady when a second explosion came, affecting them more directly and bringing down the room around them. Instinct took over as the room collapsed around them in a cacophony of shattered concrete and screaming metal, the explosion ringing in their ears and turning the soundscape into cotton. Cringing and deafened, the world was reduced to sensation as Sadie crouched, hands up over her head. Plastic and glass buffeted her body, leaving long scratches and bruises. She waited for the crushing blow, the collapse of the building on top of her but instead... All she felt was the mental weight. The explosion was over quickly, odds and ends scattering across the floor. Above her and around her, shattered concrete, brick, and lime floated, creating a sort of makeshift shell around her and Caleb. When she opened her eyes, she could see how close they'd come: the rock and metal hovered a mere foot away from their bodies - even now, it threatened to collapse on them both. She looked to Caleb in horror and wonder. “Your brother,” Caleb said with effort, as a way of explaining the fact that he was managing to keep anything metallic at bay. “He must be nearby. But he’s okay,” he added quickly. “If I’m able to channel him, I mean.” Sadie nodded, and though she was barely able to hear him, she understood. The strain of keeping everything away was taking its toll, her chest heaving as she gasped for air. How to get out of this? Closing her eyes, she breathed in deep: limestone, dolamite, granite surrounded them in all directions. She just needed to choose. Slowly, painfully, the geokinetic exerted her will on the concrete, brick and mortar, pushing it outward and upward. The slabs of concrete fused together, pushing out the rebar and metal and forming a cylinder around the two Vols. Onward it went, creating a small silo up and up until finally open air was above them, dusty and burnt but open. She fell to her knees, pushed to her limit. But now all that was left was to get up, and out. |
