International flights were a good opportunity for sleep, but upon finally arriving back at IVI Dani felt too tired to do much else. It was the early hours of the day, but she could still easily get some more rest in before she had to be awake for another round of training. It had been a busy day - or was it two days? Dani wasn’t quite sure - and she’d spoken to so many people. Bleary-eyed and eager to sleep some more, Dani hesitated outside the door. It was late, and waking Cati up wasn’t a good idea. She gripped her bag with one hand and fished the keycard from her pocket before swiping it in the reader. She opened the door carefully, slow in case it made any sound. Without turning on the light she slipped her shoes off and placed the bag down, no other thought in her head except the prospect of sleep. Dani reached out where she could see in the dim light, her hands catching on the corner of the bedcovers, and she started to get into bed. Only someone was already there. Raphael was conveniently a heavy sleeper; he'd shared many a bed in the past, and it was a beneficial trait. It may have been some time since he got properly tangled with another body betwixt the sheets, but as Dani began to slip herself into her own bed his body responded to the new presence with swift muscle memory. Namely by trying to loop his slumbering limbs around her waist and cop a cuddle. Sleepy she may have been, but completely oblivious she was not. Dani took a few seconds to properly realise that not only was she not alone but that someone was trying to put their arms around her, and she shrieked loudly. “GET OFF!” Dani cried, all efforts at being quiet for Cati’s sake forgotten at the realisation that there was an imposter in her bed. The girl tried to push him away, arms not as strong as usual thanks to several hours with little sleep. At her roommate's cry, the Mexican girl in the other bed jerked awake with a great gasp, one arm flinging out to collide noisily with the wall. It took only a moment for Catalina to grasp what was happening, and she was already untangling herself from her sheets before she could get the words out. "Dani! Ay, lo siento, I'm sorry, I didn't know you'd be back so early!" she cried, half-falling out of her bed. "It's okay! It's okay, it's just Raphael." If the scream wasn't enough to stir Raphael from peaceful slumber, the shove certainly did the trick. In the startled melee he tried to jump to his feet, but got tangled in the sheets and slammed his head into the shelf above the bed, sending the contents toppling. "Che cosa, dove--!?" He tried to speak, groggily, half-formed thoughts swirling out of thin air around him, but none managing to take any form in his confused state. His legs got caught in the sheets and he toppled out of the bad, landing in a tangled pile on the floor beneath the two girls. Dani’s yells had barely subsided when Raphael was moving again, and she shouted again. “What is he doing in here?” Dani demanded angrily, the voice that she’d heard could only belong to one person and she was deeply unhappy about the idea of him being in her bed. Things had crashed to the floor as well as the boy, and Dani slammed her palm into the light switch so that they weren’t all in the dark. “Get out!” Dani repeated as she turned the light on. "Bella, per favore I--" Raphael tried to mount his defense amidst his tangle of sheets, but as the lights flared on and he saw the fury in Dani's face he fell silent. He quickly ducked his way towards the door, struggling to free himself from Dani's linens as he went. "Grazi Catalina," He managed quickly over his shoulder, before disappearing into the hallway. Cati was a little shell-shocked from all the yelling and things falling and the sudden light, so she just stood next to her bed in her pajamas looking for all the world like a startled fish, mouth gaping, eyes blinking. "Ay..." she said in a small squeak after the door clicked shut behind Raphael. She'd never been faced with Dani quite so angry before. "Querida, I'm sorry, he had given up his room to Padraig and Leona, you know, he was just released from a week's worth of solitary and wanted to do a nice thing... I only thought to do one in return. The couches are so uncomfortable." Dani glared at Raphael as he made his exit, and her expression barely softened even as the door shut behind him. The girl looked to her roommate, still fuming. Tired, angry, sad - she didn’t know how she felt any longer. She folded her arms and then shrugged her shoulders. Now would be an opportunity to talk to Cati, to ask her things and apologise for setting Raphael to investigate her over something that she could’ve asked about just as easily. Maybe to share a story from the day, try and repair the distance that had grown between them. Instead Dani shrugged. “I’m sorry,” she apologised quietly, the glare finally relaxing a little. “I’m just really tired, okay?” "Okay," Catalina said, the word coming out on tip-toe, not wanting to incur the full blast of that glare again. "I can imagine you must be, that is a lot of flying time for very little time spent on the ground. Ah..." She cast a look about, and grabbed a pair of pants and a shirt that were conveniently lying on a chair. "Why don't I let you get some rest, okay? We can catch up later." A slight, reluctant nod and Dani shuffled back towards the bed. She pressed a hand to her forehead, still feeling the faint twinges of a headache. Raphael had given her quite a scare, even if she had reacted badly. “Tell Raph I’m sorry, but he scared me,” she offered up the apology quietly. “We can talk tomorrow, yeah.” Dani’s agreement was accompanied by a frustrated sigh as she squashed any further worries, sitting down on the bed and sinking into the covers. "I will. Rest well," Cati said softly, already easing out the door and shutting it gently behind her. Once she had, she let loose all the air in her lungs, putting her own hand to her forehead. "Dios mio," she muttered, looking up after a long moment to see if Raphael was still around. Raphael stood in the dim light of the hallway, still a bit shaken from the whole experience but doing his best to affect a cavalier attitude. He'd folded the sheet which he'd dragged out with him, and offered it up to Cati as she arrived. "Spaciente, bella. I hope I do not make for you too much trouble." "No, not at all," Catalina said, offering him a strained smile. "I should have thought to ask when she'd be back, but with everything..." she trailed off, not wanting to bring up the news of the resolution where there might be prying ears. "I didn't think," she finished, giving a tired shrug and taking the sheet from Raphael, more out of reflexes than a want for it. Indeed, once she had the sheet in hand she stared at it rather dumbly, not quite knowing what to do next. Catalina's own discomfort seemed to dissolve Raphael's, and he reached out to touch her hands. "Thank you for this gesture, bella. It was very appreciated." He looked down the hall to where heads were peeking out of doors in the wake of Dani's scream, "I think perhaps I should go now, si? I will see you soon." Cati's head jerked up at his touch and she blushed. "Ay, it was nothing..." she started to demur, only for Raphael to start moving away. "Oh, wait... do you... do you want to get breakfast?" she asked, all in a rush. Holding up the sheet (forgetting the clothes she'd grabbed were in her other hand), she continued, "I need only to get dressed, and I can meet you outside?" Raphael's eyes crinkled with his smile, and he bowed his head in assent, "It would be my great honour." |
