WHO: Davi Alizadeh [USA] and Enver Huzjak [CROATIA]
WHAT: At 2:13AM, Davi decides it's a good idea to wake Enver up and confess to him something about his first day back at training.
WHEN: Early morning on Friday, June 21st.
WHERE: Enver's humble abode in 3d.
WARNINGS: N/A.
STATUS: Complete.
Though he had barely slept in solitary, Davi couldn’t sleep the night after he was released either. He tossed and turned for hours as Enver slept beside him, his light snoring occurring at rhythmic intervals. Normally he wasn’t bothered, but tonight it seemed to be adding to his inability to sleep as he tried to arrange himself comfortably on the tiny twin bed with limited space. Back. Stomach. Right side. Left side. Back to stomach. Nothing worked. After positioning himself to his side once more, he eventually squinted his eyes as he lifted his head off the pillow and looked at the digital clock across the room. 2:13AM. Sighing, he flopped his head back down on the pillow and stared into the almost complete darkness in the general direction of the snoring. “Hey. Enver?” Davi asked as he reached into the darkness and gave the other man’s sternum a few good taps with his fingers. “You awake?” "Mrrnf..." Enver replied, letting out a grunt of frustration each time he was poked awake. Reaching up to rub the sleep from his eyes with clumsy fingers, the young Croatian groaned softly, "Whatisit?" Reaching out as consciousness and sense slowly returned to him, he set one hand on Davi, making sure the other boy was still there. That they hadn't stolen him back to Solitary somehow. "Are you okay?" “Yeah. I’m...” Davi didn’t even bother to finish the sentence because at this point, he assumed Enver would know he was lying. When you woke a person up in the middle of the night, it wasn’t so you could tell them how fine you were doing. Such a move was a universal signal for something was on your mind. “No. Not really.” Curling his arm around the other boy, Enver pulled Davi in close with a concerned frown, holding him against his chest. "I am sorry." Sighing, the young man shook his head, "I tried to talk to Wolfe for you about it. He said he would do something." He offered, hoping that would make his boyfriend feel better somehow. "...do you want to talk about it?" “Thanks for that,” he answered as he leaned his head down against Enver. While he appreciated his attempt at springing him from the slammer, Davi didn’t really have it in him at the moment to tell him that was probably all lip service. Though maybe his team leader did try since he hadn’t heard about him going off the rails like some other team leaders. “Yeah. I guess. Like, obviously I went to training and did what Slate wanted.” Even though he had been assured the guards were all there on a voluntary basis, the entire process didn’t sit right with him. Davi didn’t like using his powers on other people and had pretty much avoided it for the most part until now. And he especially didn’t like using his powers on people in a position of power like the guards had over them. “And I did it. I showed them the worst possible things their minds could imagine.” "I'm sorry," Enver murmured, reaching up with one hand to card his fingers through Davi's hair, looking to sooth the other boy a little, "I know you do not like to use your powers like that. ...were they alright?" The whole thing left a dull swell of fear deep in the pit of Enver's stomach. He had tried his best to stay hopeful, to keep his hopes up and wait for everything to get better, but it really didn't look like that was going to happen. “I don’t know. I mean, they’re military and they’ve seen a lot of shit in their careers that makes them afraid of those things. The one guy just kept screaming and screaming and...” His voice drifted away as Davi didn’t exactly want to remember that fear that was now etched in his own mind. After that he was quiet for a moment as he listened to the faint thud of Enver’s heartbeat and felt the fingers running through his hair. “But... I just kept thinking about all the shit that’s happened here and to me and to everyone else. And all the shit that’s going on outside of here. All the shit that happened with the kidnappings.” Pausing a moment, Davi chewed hard on the corner of his lip as he briefly debated whether or not to go on with his confession. “Enver? I didn’t feel bad for doing it to them like I would have before.” "That--" Enver stopped himself. He had wanted to say that it was okay, but found himself hesitating. He wasn't sure what was right anymore, everything around them seemed to be going wrong. Devon was killing people. Everyone was fighting. His parents... nothing made sense to him, so he decided to cling to the few things that still did. One of those was Davi; kind and sweet and someone who had been there for him over the last few months when he'd needed it the most. "...that's okay. You didn't have a choice." “No. I had a choice about how I felt about it. And in that moment I felt like they deserved it for everything that’s happened and all the shit that probably will happen.” It was a disturbing idea to him. Before coming to IVI, he had worried that the more sinister aspect of his powers would be tapped for personal use by perhaps a government agency. Davi loathed the thought of causing that kind of emotional torture to a person, but in certain moments his anger had taken over and he had felt glad, perhaps even self-righteous, over his actions. “What kind of person does that make me?” Enver was silent for a moment, the darkness making his expression difficult to decipher. "I think it makes you the kind of person who is in a very difficult situation." Pulling Davi in closer, he nuzzled briefly at the other boy's temple before planting a kiss there, "And I do not want you to feel bad for that. You are a good person, I know it." He smiled slightly in the dark, though it was strained. “I knew there was a reason I liked you,” Davi replied after a moment in an attempt to add a little bit of humor to a slightly dark situation. “I just... I just wonder how much longer we can all keep putting up with this. I don’t know. Thanks for saying that though.” He needed to hear it. "I think as long as we have our friends and each other, we will be okay." Enver murmured, his voice thick with sleep. "We just have to hold on until things get better. And things always get better." “Yeah. You’re right,” he answered quietly. While he didn’t quite believe it, he purposely left the maybe out of his statement. He said nothing more after that and it wasn’t long before Enver’s rhythmic snoring returned. Though he closed his eyes, Davi wasn’t going to sleep much tonight. |
