HUNTER: "So here's our volunteer leader list --" Though it wasn't written down anywhere, of course, Hunter had committed the names to memory as they'd come forward. "You two, of course...Vic and Daisy...Elise, Kim, Edwin...and Carter." Hunter crossed his arms over his chest, waiting for the inevitable lively debate that was likely to follow some of those names. "Can we at least agree on the obvious choices here?" he cut in quickly. "Vic can work with you with enhanced physicality type powers, Cati, and Daisy obviously has the tech corner covered. And Daisy's been helping out since the beginning, she deserves the responsibility." CATI: Hunter crossed his arms, Cati raised an eyebrow. She managed to hold her tongue, though, and just nodded in agreement. "Yes, and Vic's powers are somewhat more constant than my own," she added wryly. "I'm a little surprised about Daisy - I was under the impression she wanted to be minimally involved? But if she wants it, obviously it's hers. I think Edwin is another obvious choice, although," she looked to Mason now, "I haven't been in his group." MASON: Well that was sure an eclectic list. Mason decided he'd start with his yeses before the debate started. He started at the top. "Vic's fine. Elise is cool. Kim, yes. Edwin would probably be better helping others. He doesn't actually want to work on his own power but I think he's patient enough to help others. Daisy... I'm there with you Cati, but I'd rather not have her continue to glare at me like I'm the devil. I doubt it'd help, but whatever." Finally he got to the end, the only question mark he'd marked down. "Carter though? Letting his Vol Squad teammates in is one thing. But leading a team? I don't know about that." HUNTER: He rubbed at the scruff on his chin, irritably. "Daisy pulled away because -- well, I sorted it out, so don't worry about it. She's relatively okay with it now." He wasn't about to explain the ins and outs of their fight to these two. He couldn't promise she wouldn't keep glaring at Mason, but as long as nobody was actively arguing, it would have to be enough. "Carter..." Hunter gave a half-shrug. "Look, I get your reservations. But he's older, I think he has a pretty strong grasp of his power, he's pretty well-liked by some people. We don't have anyone who has probability powers like his on-board yet. He can be helpful when it comes to training other people -- he can judge their rate of success, or make things more challenging for someone if it's getting too easy. And honestly, if he has responsibility and shit to do, he'll be less likely to be a problem. I know he's actually interested in making this work." CATI: "That's all well and good," Cati started, "And I agree with you, but does he want to lead a team to make this work, or does he want to lead a team to ensure that his friends get invited?" Carter had been an asset in the group she'd been leading, but he was also adamant about bringing people on board that she - and others - had some reservations about. HUNTER: He frowned at her. "How would that make a difference? His friends will get invited if we're reasonably sure that they're not a huge risk, whatever he has to say about it. Him leading a team only makes a difference to the people who he ends up working with." Hunter paused for a moment before he went on to make a slight concession to her point. "I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to have him leading a team, though, with his friends being...the less cooperative types. Makes us look like we're willing to trust someone like him, not just keep the leadership among the clean-cut student council types. They'll probably respond well to that." CATI: "Sorry, I meant more -- does he expect that the team he'd be leading would be his friends? Because that may not be very productive in terms of their collective abilities." HUNTER: "He'd better not," he replied with a raised eyebrow. "We didn't promise anyone anything like that." MASON: "The less cooperative types. The same people Vic is friends with?" Mason had a feeling that this choice had less to do with Carter and more to do with making his girlfriend happy. "I dunno. The impression that I got was he wanted his friends with him. The Vol Squad ones too." CATI: "Well," Cati said with a shrug, deciding on a more diplomatic tack for the time being. "We haven't decided to bring in Omar and Lo and Javier yet, so we can tell him that we're happy for him to be a leader, but we'd like to be more established before bringing in those of his less cooperative friends." HUNTER: "We're not telling him anything that we wouldn't tell anyone else in the same position," Hunter nodded. "If he's willing to help and take a leadership role when he clearly has the means to be helpful, then we should let him. If he changes his mind, well --" He shrugged. "We tried. So Cati, you're okay with that? Mason?" MASON: "Sure." He wasn't okay-okay but had no other objections. CATI: She nodded. "Works for me. So that makes Vic, Daisy, Edwin, and Carter as definites -- I'm obviously fine with Elise and Kim, though if both Daisy and Kim are leading groups, would that interfere with their own training together? I suppose it doesn't have to, and the groups should be fairly fluid anyway..." HUNTER: "Yes, definitely," Hunter agreed emphatically. "Hell, they can co-lead a group if they want, or have their groups meet together if enough of their powers overlap and interact in useful ways for training. Or they can meet up on their own, whenever they want. Let's make it clear that this isn't about hierarchy or set-in-stone separation -- it's about delegation and keeping meetings small to avoid suspicion. Right?" He paused, then remembered to throw in his two cents: "oh, and I'm fine with Kim and Elise. Especially if we get another -- the other teleporter." Not Isla. ISLA: "EXCUSE YOU I WOULD TOTES BE AN ASSET TO THIS GROUP VIC WOULD FOR SURE VOUCH FOR ME OMG WHY ARE YOU SO JEALOUS IT DIDN'T EVEN MEAN ANYTHING" >:O HUNTER: BITCH DON'T EVEN~ and he z-snapped. MASON: "It shouldn't be too difficult to get that across to the group." Who knew for sure though. Youthful arrogance did have a tendency to get in the way of generally logical individuals. That also assumed they were all logical. "That about covers new business. Anything else or are we good?" CATI: Again, Catalina nodded her agreement with the two men. "Has anyone been in touch with Jana? Do we know if this is something she'd like to do?" The 'new girl', as it were, was rather reclusive, insofar as she could see. Turning to Mason, she nodded. "I think that covers everything pressing..." HUNTER: "Aside from putting together the groups," Hunter replied wryly, "but I kind of think that part'll be fun." He leaned forward, looking thoughtfully amused. "I'll mention Jana to Elise -- get the two of them talking, at least. She's not one of the babies but she's young, and the more young ones we can get to, the better. So -- I was thinking, about the 'ephemeral energy manipulation' kind of power types..." he began, already mentally grouping and assembling names that were associated with a particular kind of feeling to him. Fun, but time-consuming. |
