While it couldn’t claim the prize for worst week or so in his IVI history, it certain was in the top five or so according to Davi. Increasing Vol Rising activity had caused many people’s fears to escalate, which was anything but fun for the young Vol’s powers. Increased emotions made it more difficult to keep his powers at bay and the amount of concentration he put into not projecting was making him tired. Then there was the usual drama with his class, which had really reach an all time high of annoyance for him. Plus all the junk concerning the Vol Squad. On top of it all, things with Mason had gone weird, so all these things combined together made for a rather miserable Davi. On this particular day, he had gone to the cafeteria for dinner and after feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the students, Davi decided to just grab some food and go. It wasn’t long before he had an apple, bottled iced tea, and a bacon cheeseburger in his hands and once paid, he shuffled out of the cafeteria quickly so he could clear his head. The feeling only lasted a short while before certain thoughts let him know someone was approaching him. "Hey," Mason grunted as he walked up on Davi. Just because he wasn't particularly happy with how the boy skipped out on OUTback--a meeting that he really could have benefited from--didn't mean that he wouldn't say hi. He didn't say anything more than the terse greeting. Dinner was finished and he had some people he had to talk to about Really Important projects they were working on. Unpacking the feelings of naughty gay children was important, but not particularly high on the list of things to do in that moment. Usually Davi was happy to see Mason out and about IVI, but today the older man was lower on the list of people he wanted to encounter. His pride was still hurt from not knowing an apparently important part of history and it would have been fine with him if he could have just avoided things until that feeling ended. Oh well. “Hey,” he answered with a casual nod of his head as he cracked open the cap of his drink. “How’s it going?” "Alright. Busy," Mason paused for the slightest of moments. "I imagine it's the same for you, given how you're family meetings." No, Davi's disappearance wouldn't go unnoted. Mace was definitely the opposite of Davi, he didn't avoid situations like this. It wasn't constructive in his mind. He was quiet for a few seconds as he opted to take a huge gulp of his drink rather than address Mason’s comment right away. “Yeah. I ended up watching But I’m A Cheerleader with some of the lesbians from my class.” Everyone watching learned a valuable lesson about life, love, and friendship, plus what RuPaul looked like out of drag. Mason stopped and physically pulled Davi aside. "Listen. No one's forcing me to spend all the time that I do mentoring you or the others, just like no one's forcing you to participate. I do it because I think it's important to pass along information to people less in the know than I am. More than that I honestly enjoy teaching and getting to know all you guys." That was the truth. If he wasn't enjoying what he was doing, OUTback wouldn't exist at all. Mason continued on, not allowing Davi to get a word in just yet. "If you aren't interested, you aren't interested, but at least let me know so I'm not wasting either of our time." As Mason spoke, Davi just stared at him waiting for him to finish so he could come up with some kind of retort. “Okay. First of all, I am interested, but if we’re being honest here the things you said in that post made me feel stupid,” he quickly started before he lost his nerve to address things. “I get it. I’m young. I don’t know a lot about a lot of things, especially this, you know? But even before I came out, I always felt comfortable asking you things because you didn’t treat me like I was an idiot or anything. So I get you were having a shitty day and I don’t blame you, but your attitude kind of sucked. And it made me feel stupid and it made me not want to come to the meeting and I’m pretty sure I’ll never get Toby to come to OUTback now too.” The telekinetic sighed. "I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings. Being gay is hard. It's not all tank tops and show tunes and Grindr. People are going to say and do far worse things to you than tossing out an insensitive barb." That whole conversation on his journal was a huge mess. Mason allowed too many people to hop in and derail the conversation he wanted to have. All it did was end up doing a disservice to the kids that decided not to show. "That's why knowing about our history, like Stonewall, is very important. These people didn't take the abuse tossed their way by straights. Those drag queens dug their heels in and fought. I want you all to know these things, and learn these lessons because the fight ain't over. Especially not for us " "Okay I'm just blowing you out with a whole spiel." Mason reached out to place and hand on Davi's shoulder. All the explanations in the world really didn't mean much if Davi didn't trust him. And that was the real problem here. In making his snide comment, he betrayed the trust that he'd spent months fostering. "I am sorry I hurt your feelings. It was just me not thinking before I spoke. I think you're great, dude" “I know. I get it I do.” Or at least he understood to the best of his ability. “And I do care. I used the last of my money this month to get a book to read on it. And I saw Enver after the meeting and I had him tell me everything he could remember about it. And I’m probably going to ask you a ton more stupid questions related to it and other things. I trust that you’re going to tell me the right things and not judge me and crap.” Davi sighed and chewed his bottom lip for a moment. “It’s okay. And I’m sorry I avoided you rather than talking to you. That’s not a very adult thing to do.” Supposedly. “And would you mind not repeating the Toby thing? I mean, she came out to her Mom and our class, but I shouldn’t have said it anyways. Not really my thing I’m supposed to tell here, but I wasn’t thinking,” he added with a small hint of guilt in his voice. "Shouldn't be a problem." Despite being on the same team, Mason and Toby didn't really interact all that often. "We're probably going to keep doing stuff in my room until my suspension is lifted. So make the next one, yeah?" Mason all but wagged his finger at the young Vol like a schoolmarm. “Okay cool.” Apparently his trust in Mason hadn’t been shaken too badly. “ I’ll come squeeze myself in your crowded room for the next one. I promise,” he replied with a genuine smile. Perhaps he could even bring some snacks. “But for now, I’m going to go find someplace outside away from people and eat my dinner.” "Enjoy, dude." |
